The Estoril Coast or Costa do Estoril, stretches along the beautiful Portuguese coast west from Lisbon. Along the coast lie an abundance of sandy blue flag beaches, beautiful lush countryside and historical sites.
Cascais has developed from a small fishing village to one of the most relaxed, sophisticated and lively beach resorts of the Portuguese Riviera. Aside from the glorious beaches, Cascais has plenty of cultural interest, with the 16th Century Church, many museums and a zoo. An Estoril holiday villa in Cascais opens up the vibrant nightlife of the town too. There are all sorts of bars, restaurants and clubs ranging from traditional dance to loud DJ’s, and British pubs too.
The resort of Estoril itself is a beach holiday haven. The promenade which stretches along Estoril’s three beaches has all the facilities and refreshments needed on a beach holiday, luxury villas and a championship golf course. Estoril Casino is one of the largest in Europe, and there is always plenty of fun being had inside. An Estoril holiday apartment will also give you enough flexibility to enjoy the tennis, golf, boat excursions and Estoril Casino.
The beautiful town if Sintra lies just inland from the coast in the lush steep hills described by the poet Lord Byron as a ‘glorious Eden’. A great way to see Sintra is by the Sintra tram, and from which the towering Palacio Nacional, Modern Art Museum, Toy Museum and Archaeological Museum can be discovered. An Estoril holiday villa in Sintra has great access to some fantastic beaches, water sports, golf and the stunning Sintra-Cascais Natural Park – a UNESCO World Heritage site for its natural beauty and cultural interest.
The beaches of Costa do Estoril are the main attraction, with a huge variety of sandy spots to sunbathe and let the world pass you by. Watersports of all varieties including surfing (see Guincho beach) are provided for, and there is instruction or equipment hire available on almost all of the commercial beaches.
There are also a huge number of cultural and historic sites of interest along the Costa do Estoril, and plenty of gastronomic gems to be discovered and used in a Costa do Estoril self catering villa. The stunning Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Boca do Inferno and rocks of ‘Mouth of Hell’ provide some fascinating natural scenery to marvel at, and there are a huge number of provincial museums to get your mind racing.
Costa do Estoril has hot summers lasting from May to September, with daily high temperatures of around 27°C, and cool winters.
Lisbon Airport (LIS) serves the Costa do Estoril. There are daily flights received from over 26 UK airports and with such competition, there are often some very good offers and deals on cheap flights to Lisbon and the Costa do Estoril rental properties.
