Make a holiday rental property or self catering accommodation in Norway your home away from home

It is hard to give a rough guide to Norway, as there is simply so much worthy of a mention. Simply put, Norway in a nutshell is a wild, rugged and intensely beautiful country, filled with glaciers, fjords and fearsome mountains which cannot help but to conjure up images of Norse gods and legends of Vikings. Travel in Norway is a tourists dream, surrounded permanently by awe-inspiring scenery, untouched fishing villages oozing Norwegian charm and amazing historical sights from Viking to medieval cabins, Norway cannot fail to enchant. Norway is a very diverse country, and there are huge changes from the northern tip to the area surrounding Oslo in the south.

Things to do in Norway

There are a whole host of things to do in Norway. Entertainment options range from walking in Norway’s jaw-dropping landscape, especially the fjords of Southern Norway to exploring the magical cities of Oslo, Bergen or Trondheim. Taking self catering Norway accommodation means that you can do any outdoor activity in the best natural facilities in the world.

The vast wilderness areas of Norway are among my favourite places in the world. Changing from Europe’s largest glacier, Jostedalsbreen, to the crystal clear mountain lakes of the Norwegian countryside, the landscape is truly inspirational, and there are some stunningly remote holiday cabins in Norway’s more inaccessible areas which offer the perfect retreat. Hiking, trekking and walking in Norway is simply unrivalled, and the hunting, fishing and rock climbing opportunities aren’t bad either!

The birthplace of skiing, Norway, has over 30,000km of pistes, through the magnificent scenery for both downhill and cross-country skiing. Norway’s ski season lasts from November right through to the end of May, and accommodation in Norway is in high demand during this period.

Places to holiday in Norway

Southern Norway, is a truly Scandinavian region, with charming, friendly towns and thriving nature. The picture postcard style coastal villages are beautiful, and the land in from the coast is perfect for walking, canoeing, climbing and telemark skiing in Norway.

Possibly the most beautiful region, and this is a highly contested title, the Norwegian Fjords run up the south western coast of Norway. Perfect for outdoor sports, you can kayak, raft, climb, walk and summer ski in Norway’s fjord region, and who could ask for better scenery to enjoy?

Eastern Norway, home to Oslo, the Norwegian capital, is a lively place to be in ski season. The wooded pistes around the Olympic town of Lillehammer are very popular for cheap skiing holidays, and the deep forests in the region hold the highest concentrations of wolves in Europe!

Northern Norway, high above the Arctic Circle is a magnificent place to visit, especially during the summer as it is transformed into the ‘land of the midnight sun’, bathed in 24 hours of sunlight. Tromso also wins the bragging rights as having the world’s most northerly brewery!

Weather in Norway

The ‘land of the midnight sun’ has incredible, endless summer days from May until September. Flights to Norway increase as the mild climate brings bloom to the trees, bathing Norway in a blanket of colour. In the far north, the sun stays out from the 13th May until 29th July, and nowhere in the whole of Norway sees true darkness during this time, and temperatures average around 16°C. In winter, days are short, dark and very atmospheric, and skiing resorts in Norway are usually some of the only resorts still open.

Travel to Norway

Reaching self catering Norway property can be testing, but depending on the exact location of your Norway accommodation, Oslo (OSL), Bergen (BGO), Trondheim (TRD), Stavanger (SVG) and Kristiansand (KRS) all receive cheap flights from the UK, provided by British Airways.
