Exceeds Expectations, Insane value, best trip ever

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 04 February 2010 Date of Stay: June 2009
I cannot say enough about how helpful, friendly, and hospitable the family Brekke(all members encountered) were to my friend and I. Heidi is a superb host and as down to earth as a landlady could be. The owner's even had their mother open the local shop after hours on our arrival so that I could buy my groceries for the week. The cabin(hytte) defines cozy and views from the dining windows would cost a fortune anywhere else. If nature and the outdoors are your close companions then you've stumbled upon some of their greatest performances in Ortnevik. There are not enough stars for the rating this little gem deserves.

Nicest Christmas!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 27 February 2012 Date of Stay: December 2011
I planned this Christmas holiday, without my partner knowing where we would be going. He was so nicely surprised, that we are thinking of doing the same thing next year. The only problem is that we both agree that it will be almost impossible to find such a perfect location and accommodation again. The Fjord landscape is really unique, with its mountains rising almost straight out of the water into steep hillsides; and the Brekke's cabins provided the perfect home, from which we could appreciate this.

We had initially hoped to do plenty of day hikes, but the weather wasn't so optimal to do this. We had also hoped for a white christmas, but got 10 days of rain with only 2 "dry" days- and no snow. This unfortunate (and unusual for this time of year) weather didn't stop us from enjoying the beautiful views around the Fjord. During our stay we explored most of the trails that go through Ortnevik- but taking our time- and went fishing in the rain! I think the very short daylight time (about 9 to 3) and the longer hours of darkness made for a very special atmosphere. You can't "do" as much in the day, so you have to slow down and do less. We didn't try to plan in too much for the day (also because of rain) and so ended up taking our time walking and enjoyed the scenery. It was so nice at the end of the day to come back to a warm (floor heating was great!) cabin and be able to cook a warm meal. The stone cabin itself is really nice and cosy. We also spent a few days in the wood cabin. Both cabins are wonderful and I would love to stay in either one again. But I have to say that the fireplace in the wood cabin really was a bonus- especially at this time of year, when it gets dark so early and we found it very relaxing in the evening to watch the fire burning. Otherwise both cabins had everything we needed- such as cooking ustensils and warm showers.

All the members of the Brekke family that we met (Heidi, Eldar, Anders and Kristi) gave us a warm welcome and they each helped us with our queries and questions throughout our stay. Heidi was extremely helpful in the period prior to arrival, replying to my many questions. Altogether we spent 11 nights in Ortnevik and really wish it had been longer. We were shocked how quickly the time went by and hope that we will one day come back- perhaps at a time of year when the mountain trails are more accessible. A stay in one of the cabins and a hot tub would be the perfect end to a 10 day trek in the mountains!
Owner's Response: thank you for the review, glad you had a good time.

Tolle, gut ausgestattete Hütte in schöner Lage

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 30 July 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011

Fantastic vacation on the Sognefjord

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 12 July 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
My partner and I stayed in the wood cabin for four nights in July and had an amazing time! The view is great, the cabin itself is cozy and well-appointed and there is plenty of hiking, swimming and fishing right nearby. And, most importantly, Heidi and Eldar really make you feel like guests and not just customers. They were friendly, warm and always more than willing to offer helpful advice.

It was also great that they had fishing gear and a sailboat for us to borrow. We managed to have a bit of a misadventure but it all worked out fine in the end! Overall, I really can't say enough positive things about our stay. It's a charming town and a beautiful property. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Cozy, cute and quiet cabin

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 July 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
What a charming cabin in the woods. My family of three already had one week under our belts staying at another property north of the Sognefjord, while that location was perfect, the owner was not around to answer questions or even see us off on departure. With Eldar & Heidi, they answered questions, printed out ferry schedules and maps for us to help with trips. Due to rain and a 10 year old daughter, we unfortunately left two days early to head on to see other things as the rain and ferry schedules were not working in our favor.

We loved the cabin, it was very fairy like, you can imagine them living here in this cute cabin. It was very clean and tidy, a wee bit of a climb up to the cabin, but that did not bother us at all, the view was nice and you could sit by the hour watching the clouds dance above the fjord and see the patterns of sun and clouds on the farms around the village.

Very comfortable cabin and very helpful owners make this a place for those wishing to relax. Once you get the ferry schedules in your head, there is so much to see by using the ferries. A super place to visit for sure!

Thank you Eldar, Heidi for all your help!
