Private house in beautiful complex pool front, housemaid, cook, in the north

We love Mauritius, having stayed there a couple of years ago and would recommend the island as a holiday destination. However, we would not recommend this property.

This property is in need of updating. Whilst the property itself was clean, the mattress covers were badly stained and the pillows dirty and hard. The sunbed cushions were also filthy. Both bathrooms were clean but very dated and the toilets didn't flush properly and were chippped.

The owner, Dominique had stayed at the property just before we arrived and we were surprised that she hadn't checked the beds etc while there.

We had looked forward to using the 4 bicycles which were included but they weren't available. We spoke to Dominique who said she would sort it out and get back to us (at the beginning of the holiday). We never heard from her again. We had water leaking through the ceiling into the sitting room and we waited in for the plumber to call - he never did.
As there is no useful literature available at the house, with some information about the surrounding area, restaurants, bars, shops, places to go, numbers for taxis we suggest the owner provides this. There was no information at all in the house re using the WIFI, telephone, TV etc.
A few pieces of helpful information in a folder would have been appreciated.

The house is in a small complex with a lovely well kept pool and the beach at Bain Boeuf is very close by (over a busy road). Buses are frequent and inexpensive to get into Pereybere and Grand Baie. The 2 maids were excellent - cleaning thoroughly and cooking when asked to. We would recommend the Kenville complex but not this particular property.

Overall we wouldn't recommend this property because we feel it suffers badly from an absent owner. The owner needs to look at what she's charging for this property and update it and provide useful information accordingly.
