Holidaymakers looking for a wonderful mountain retreat with great skiing in winter and brilliant scenic walks for the rest of the year will love Jackson Hole. There is so much to do in this wonderful place located in Wyoming on the Western side of the United States. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, ranches, condos, B&Bs and campsites.
This is a fantastic place to visit all year round with 116 ski trails for holidaymakers to try out in the winter. During the snow season visitors can try downhill skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling and many other things. It is a very scenic place with great places to walk with guided tours available to explore the flora and fauna of the area in the summer.
The area boasts a magnificent golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and surrounded by magnificent scenery as well as disc golf in Teton Village. In and around the resort there are cycle paths for people of all ability or holidaymakers can take to the skies by paragliding. This is also a popular destination for horse riding, kayaking, rafting and fly fishing.
Visitors coming here for the winter and summer sports will find plenty of shops selling equipment and sportswear as well as gifts and souvenirs. There are several restaurants here too along with bars and smaller eateries.
Holidaymakers can visit some great national parks here including Grand Teton Park, Yellowstone Park and National Elk Refuge. Guided river tours are available giving a different perspective of the surrounding beauty or alternatively there are rides on a horse drawn wagon. Wildlife safaris and aerial tram rides are other interesting trips to take in Jackson Hole.
Visitors will also find some interesting buildings and museums in and around Jackson Hole such as the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson. About 30 miles away is Granite Hot Springs, which is a nice place to relax.
The weather here can change very quickly so it is as well to pack extra layers to be removed as and when required. The hottest time of the year is July and August with an average high of about 80 degrees Fahrenheit and average lows of 40 degrees. The winters are very cold with average high temperatures of 25 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit in January and December, when there will also be plenty of snow for the skiing season.
The airport at Jackson Hole has flights from other U.S cities including Salt Lake City, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. There are no direct flights from outside the U.S to Jackson Hole, but there are connections from most of the major U.S airports. The nearest international airports with good European connections are Denver and Salt Lake City, from where visitors can drive about 280 miles to Jackson.
