Lovely apartment in the old town

I visited Alghero many years ago, staying in the new town. I returned with friends at Easter and thought how much nicer it would be to stay in the old town, with its historic character and ideal location. I wasn't disappointed. Antonia and Roy's apartment was ideal, with all the necessary facilities, including iron and washing machine to catch up on some washing we had accumulated earlier in our trip. The kitchen is well stocked and there are some dvds and cds if you want to spend a night in. There are plenty of places to eat and drink but it is also nice to have the option to self cater. The apartment is spacious and well laid out. The rooms are cool, which I imagine in summer is welcome, although at easter was not so necessary; however, once the windows and shutters are open there is ample light. The furnishings are a little old fashioned for my taste but in a fairly neutral way, which means that they don't offend, and in any case are consistent with the "old town" atmosphere of the place. As mentioned elsewhere the double room has a huge comfortable bed. The only comparable bed that I have slept on, size wise, was in an old palace in Rajasthan, so it helped to conjure up some happy memories. There was a small leak in the bathroom which I texted Antonia about and she had it fixed the same day while we were out and about. It didn't spoil our holiday at all. All in all I would recommend the apartment for anyone who wishes to make Alghero their base for a holiday in one of the loveliest islands (if not the loveliest) in the mediterranean.
