We offer a newly renovated apartment to rent in the Umbrian casale not far from the village of Montegabbione. The apartment has a large front and back terrace to catch the morning and evening sun and private separate entrance.The apartment is spacious with large sitting room with fireplace and adjoining fitted kitchen. Has two bedrooms and a modern bathroom. The apartment has central heating for the colder months. A supply of logs is available for those who enjoy an open fire. Large infinity swimming pool 16-8 meters surrounded by pine tees and garden. Situated in the countryside with views of the Tuscan and Umbrian hills and the medieval towns of Monteleone and Montegabbione.Easy distance to shops and supermarkets. We are working organic farm producing organic extra virgin olive oil, vine and saffron.We offer free seasonal organic fruits and vegetable as available from the garden. Fresh eggs daily from fee range chickens.

Special cooking evenings: Those who enjoy making and eating Italian specialities is welcome to join us on the special cooking evenings:

- enjoy special saffron recipes

What to do and see in the local area: Enjoy visiting nearby medieval hilltops towns and admire the work of many renaissance Italian artists. Visit La Scarzuola - The Ideal City created by Italian Architect Tomaso Buzzi on the ground of a 13th century Franciscan convent. Visit chocolate and sweet factory where famous Baci are made. Trips to the local caves Tane del Diavolo can be arranged. Enjoy Thermal spa in San Casciano dei Bagni which offers hot water thermal pool, hydro massages, sauna, Turkish bath and other exclusive treatments. Excellent tennis court in Monteleone only 7km away. Golf course 30 km away on the way to Perugia. Fishing in the nearby lake.

Walking paths: We are situated in a place great for walking. You can walk to Monte Arale and admire amazing views towards other medieval towns - Monteleone, Citta della Pieve and Parrano. If you like you walk even longer you can carry on to Greppolischieto – little medieval hamlet restored in the late 80s by Anna Fendi well known Italian fashion designer. Is a charming place and the view is fantastic. You can see Lake Trasimeno from there. If you happen to be there in late August and early September you can fill yourself with delicious blackberries. Other lovely walk is to Castel di Fiori. Is a good walk on the sunny days as you go mainly through the forest. Every year in August Castel di Fiori organise a week of Festa with food, dancing and stars watching. From there you can carry on your walk to Castellieri – enclosure turned to fortification since the bronze age and re-used in the Middle ages where some Roman tombs have also been found.

We stayed at Casa Rondini this summer 2012 for a week at the end of July and this was our 5th visit here (that's how much we like it!). The place is very peaceful, with a good pool and lovely spacious apartments. There are lots of little hill top towns to explore in the vicinity as well as being close enough to visit lovely places such as Orvieto, Siena, Todi and Assisi. However, the thing that really makes this place special are the optional communal evening meals 3 times a week where you can design your own pizza (Pizza night) which is then cooked by Franco in the stone pizza oven, try your hand at making pasta which is then expertly cooked and served with amazing sauces by Franco (Pasta night), or sample some wonderful recipes using Franco and Bozena's home grown saffron (Saffron night). And I almost forgot to mention the home made wine and limoncello! Getting to know a number of families from across Europe and USA at these meals has been a highlight each time we have visited. We have no hesitation in recommending this place and also the wonderful hosts Franco, Bozena and their 2 delightful daughters.

A Wonderful Holiday

My family and I have just returned from two weeks ta Casa Rondini, staying in one of the ground floor apartments. The apartment provided us with everything we needed for our stay, there was much needed shade at the front and the back of the property and we were within feet of the pool area. Everything was clean and the whole place runs like clockwork. We enjoyed the surrounding countryside and visiting numerous hill towns but what really made the holiday special were the meals cooked by Franco and the opportunity to get to know other guests. Each Sunday there is a pizza night, where guests get to make their own pizza and meet new guests. On Tuesdays there is a pasta night, where after making your own pasta, Franco makes some wonderful sauces. Thursday is saffron night, again Franco produced three courses of delicious food, all washed down by home made wine and limoncello. Superb! A place we would recommend to friends and relatives (high praise indeed).

Our stay at Casa Rondini was perfect in every way; Franco & his family are wonderful hosts. Our apartment was second floor with beautiful terraces front & back: our front view looked up the stone-paved drive between olive trees, back terrace overlooked a huge azure swimming pool with its own backdrop of Umbrian hills & Montegabbione. Fresh flowers & a bottle of wine waited on the table, & the kitchen cupboards were full of spices, olive oil, wine vinegar, tea - everything to easily spend a comfortable week. Bedroom & bath were simply & beautifully furnished in keeping with the rural ambiance. We were free to roam fields & garden, choosing "real" Roma tomatoes from the little harvest still remaining in late October. Casa Rondini is a great point from which to tour this region, a center of Etruscan life. The villa has a great little library of tourist info (& books left by fellow travellers - meet aurelio Zen!) & Bozena is so willing to to give further help & advice. She printed out a train schedule to Florence for us - the 2+ hour ride from Fabro was as much fun as the day in the city! The Saffron Festival in Citta della Pieve occurred the weekend we were there & Franco & his family made sure to invite us to Sunday's 3-course luncheon benefitting the region's organization of saffron (from crocuses) growers . It was fun, delicious, & now we can say we've eaten saffron gelato, watched artists painting with saffron, & felt like locals for the day! Franco cooked a magnificent dinner for us & other guests (all of whom were returning with their families for the fifth & sixth times- what does that tell you?!) the night before we had to leave. Franco, Bozena & their daughters have made Casa Rondini a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You will, as will we, try to find a way to return.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Casa Rondini. We have previously rented many apartments in Italy, and I have to say this was the best experience we have had. The apartments are cozy and comfortable. We had a lovely fireplace and made fires on a few nights. The pool is beautiful and the setting heavenly. But best of all are the host and hostess Franco and Bozena. They could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Two nights of pasta making w/ other guests were great fun. Vegetables from their bountiful organic garden are free and eggs from the chickens available at a minimal price, along w/ their own wine, olive oil, saffron and honey.

The incredibly peaceful silence surrounding the house is something to revel in. It is set out in the rolling hills, but a quick and easy ride to the A1 for longer day trips, and close to many other beautiful towns, both in Umbria and Tuscany. I couldn't recommend it more highly!

Recommended for: Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children

We stayed at the Casa Rondini for a week in early September of 2010. Our entire trip to Europe was 21 days and by far my whole family counted our time with Franco & Bozena as the unquestionable highlight of our trip. The "pasta night" with Franco was more than we could have hoped for...a wonderful time of fellowship with Franco & Bozena and another couple from the US. The food and wine were of incredible quality. We even got to help Franco get started with his annual wine making process. Unbelievable! The rooms were large and very comfortable. The terraces on the east and west sides were superb for sunrises and quiet enjoyment of wonderful sunsets. We will absolutely come back when we are in Europe again.

Recommended for: Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
