Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Appia Antica - A Haven in Rome
1 bedroom apartment, A/C, WI-FI, 1 min from tube,15 min from historic centre

Sunny, stylish and spacious apartment (6th floor with lift) owned by a Scottish-Italian family who take pride in making it a warm home from home. Our apartment is located in one of the best connected areas of Rome, Appio-San Giovanni, close to the Old Appian Way, just 15 min. by tube from the historic centre. You'll be living in a typical Roman area and will be able to mix with the locals, away from the tourist trap and you certainly won't regret it! The apartment features: spacious bedroom (double glazed window doors opening onto the balcony) with king size bed, fold-up bed suitable for a child, dressing table, wardrobe; large living room with 2 couches (one of which a very comfortable queen size sofa bed), dining table, bookcase, LCD flat screen TV; fully equipped kitchen; bathroom with shower; hall with extra wardrobe; balcony where you can sit at the end of the day with a glass of wine watching the world go by. A/C. Free WI-FI. Supermarkets, cafés, shops, restaurants, etc. nearby.

How to reach us: FROM FIUMICINO AIRPORT.

Either take the Leonardo Express train to Termini station (tickets cost 14 euros) and then the A-line subway (Direzione Anagnina) and get off at Colli Albani or take the FR1 train and get off at the Stazione Tuscolana (tickets cost 8 euros; children under 12 don’t pay; trains leave every 15 min. except in July-Aug: every 30 min.). Outside the Tuscolana station, turn left and walk down to the traffic lights, then up Via Gela to the Pontelungo subway station (not even a five minutes walk). Take the subway (Direzione Anagnina) to the Colli Albani station. The flat is right there.

FROM CIAMPINO AIRPORT.

About IRENE

I inherited this flat from my parents and am very attached to it. I was born and brought up in Scotland and 'brought over' to Italy when my parents retired, but I've been living here a lifetime and now consider Italy as home, although I often think fondly of my childhood in Scotland. It was my sons’ idea that I rent this flat out to tourists. I decided to give it a try and have been happily welcoming people from all over the world since August 2006. I would love to welcome you too.

What makes this apartment unique

The flat has a homely atmosphere and is close to everything: supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, 'pizzerias and gelaterias', boutiques, banks, internet cafés, car hire, open air fruit and vegetable market, etc. The location is fantastic. From the balcony you have a beautiful view of the hills to the south of Rome and the Via Appia Nuova. The underground stop is right at the doorstep, and bus stops too, which means you reach the historic centre in 15 minutes and there's no walking to do when you come back at night with weary feet. You will be living in a typically Roman area and be able to mix with the locals. If you get tired of city life and want a breath of fresh air, go and visit the Caffarella Park. It's just short walk away and is the most significant remaining example of ancient countryside in the city. You'll see many monuments from different ages, besides sheep grazing here and there and a good few vegetable gardens.

One of the main assets of our property is that it is right at an A-line Metro (subway) stop - Colli Albani. The A-line Metro was built to connect all the main tourist attractions, from the Old Appian Way to the Vatican, so our apartment combines the advantages of an affordable price with easy access to the historic centre. All the major sights can be reached in a few minutes. Buses are also widely available. There are many supermarkets nearby and a great mix of shops, banks, ATM's, internet cafés, restaurants, bakeries, pubs, 'pizzerias and getaterias', all in close proximity, not to mention the daily open air fruit and vegetable market. We are located along the Via Appia Nuova, one of Rome's best shopping areas and just a short walk away from the 'Valle della Caffarella' park (part of the 'Appia Antica Regional Park'), which nature lovers might want to visit as it is the most significant remaining example of ancient countryside in the city. Fantastic apartment

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 09-Apr-2009
  • Date of Stay: Mar 2009
The apartment is very spacious and clean. We stayed with our 9 month old daughter (Irene provided a cot) and it would also suit a larger family than this. It is perfectly located within a minutes walk to the metro and even less time to the bus stop. There are a couple of shops across the road and some 'local' restaurants - off the main tourist trap. We were met on our arrival by Irene who was very helpful and kind and who made sure we had everything we needed. She also kindly helped us with details of a local doctor when our little girl was poorly. It was good to know that there was someone who could speak fluent English who could help us if needed.
I would highly recommend this apartment.

Top of our list

Dear Irene, we loved your flat and every day we admired your and your son's artwork on the walls. The balcony is a fantastic vantage point to watch Roman traffic and Roman street life below. We also appreciated how well equipped your flat is. We lacked virtually nothing since everything was supplied. We've stayed in a lot of vacation apartments all over the world in the last 10 years and yours is at the very top of our list. Thanks also for arranging the airport transfer. All was perfect and on time.

A perfect appartment

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 30-Mar-2013

We (two parents and 1 child) used the appartment for five days. We enjoyed very much staying in the appartment which is very clean, fully equipped with all people need. The surrounding is perfect and very close to busses stations and the Metro. Also to supermarkets and resturants.
Irene welcomed us with muffens and explanations about main things.
The only thing which is not perfect is the street noise, for those that are sensitive to such noises.

We had a lovely 3 day stay in this very nice apartment. We was met on arrival by the very helpful Irene who even left us milk and fresh cakes which we all very much enjoyed. We found the apartment very clean and spacious with everything you would need. It is in a great location within easy reach of the metro and the bus station which takes you straight to all the attractions. There was Mcdonalds, a Supermarket, a pizzeria restaraunt called Casali Gasperini that made homemade , Fresh food We all loved the pizza's. Also there was a lovely ice cream parlour called Billy's ice cream that we all enjoyed, In all we had a lovely stay & would recomend to family & freinds,The lovely Irene could'nt do enough for us from beginning to end, Once again Irene a big thank you for our lovely stay & iam sure we will meet again!!!

Great location, apartment etc

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 24-Oct-2012
  • Date of Stay: Oct 2012
Stayed at Irene's apartment for one week, and I could find nothing to say against it. Location is ideal, just south of the City but so easy to get around - the buses and metro are on the doorstep. The information folder provided is full of detailed advice and travel guidance, I couldn't go wrong.

Local shops are right there too, (including Billy's Ice Cream!), so no car is needed at all. Irene arranged the transfer to and from the airport and it was totally reliable and punctual.

The apartment itself is equipped with everything that you could possibly need and then a little bit more, and it seems that nothing is too much trouble. Despite being a lone female traveller, I felt totally secure and comfortable in the apartment and in the neighbourhood. I knew too that Irene was keeping an eye out for me!

Highly recommended.
