Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in Reggio Emilia - Casa Appennino
2 Bedrooms , sleeping 4/5 in each apartment balconies, gardens, extras

Beautiful and spacious self catering apartments with stunning views of the Appennine Mountains. Each apartment sleeps 4/5 with south facing balconies. Jaccuzzi, large gardens, sun deck, BBQ, private parking, meals and other extras are available for your use too.

The house is at the end of a village and so very tranquil and picturesque, yet only 10 minutes walk from the town where there are shops, banks, restaurants, large open air swimming pool and other facilities.

The apartments are spacious, each comprising large double or twin bedrooms, new bathroom, modern fitted kitchen, lounge/dining room and balcony with amazing views. We can also provide lunches and evening meals on request.

It is an ideal locatation for walking, trekking, or just a tranquil week in the mountains of Italy, exploring the local landscape and immersing yourself in Italian culture.

It is the house of an artist and musician and so there are many works of art in the house and garden. As the owners live on stie they are available to advise on local visits, lend maps and other equipment or arrange local activities, whether it be a meal, Italian cookery lessons, art or photography lessons or just where to find the rock pools.

This beautiful and spacious self catering apartment, set in the Appennine mountains of Italy is ideal for a tranquil holiday to appreciate the landscape and mountain scenery. The property is large with many holiday facilities, such as the private pool/jaccuzzi, large sun deck, terraces, balconies, beautiful gardens, parking and so on.

Artists: As this is the home of an artist we welcome all lovers of art whether you wish to learn art or are an established artist. We have a large fully equipped studio with easels, drawing boards and a very wide selection of drawing, painting and sculpture materials. You can also arrange for tuition if you wish.

Walkers: If you are looking for a great trekking holiday or walking holiday this is the perfect location. We are both experienced walkers and can advise you on interesting routes. There are many forest walks, mountain climbs, meadows moving with butterflies, the beauty of the agricultural landscape with vines and orchards, rivers and pools to have cooling dip......It is just beautiful!

It is a National Park in the stunning Appennine mountains of Italy and as wildlife is protected you will discover many animals and wild flowers on your walks.

For a climbing holiday there is a Via Ferrata nearby (and we have safety equipment you can borrow if you wish) (2 suspension bridges over a gorge are really pretty plus wires and steps to assist you over more difficult terrain) There are ancient fountains with (it is claimed) curative properties. The Bismantova rock is an astonishing geological formation with amazing views from the top which can be reached in less than an hour. For climbers this is famous in Italy for the wide range (over 250) of fixed routes up the face of the rock. Also an exhilarating via ferrata.

Food: No visit to Italy is complete without sampling the local food. Emilia Romagna claims to be the gastronomic capital of Italy. Not only are there the fresh and delicious fruit and vegetable products of the vast valleys, but there are also the many famous cheeses including Parmesan cheese. You will have heard of Parma ham - but there are many other meat products particular to the region - probably too many to sample in one week but you can try!. Then there are truffles and the various mushrooms - porcini being the most famous...and of course the many wines of the region to sample.

We have many local restaurants serving beautiful local food and wine. Be prepared to be served around 9 courses though!!!! ...and the prices are very reasonable.

Although our apartments are for self catering vacations we are also able to provide sumptious lunches and evening meals with local produce at the house.

Please note that we have not been affected by the recent earthquakes and are unlikely to do so because we are in the mountains.

Why Pheona Kerr & David Gormley chose Reggio Emilia

We fell in love with this property for many reasons. First the location is spectacular, and yet only 10 minutes from the nearby town. The house itself is spacious and gracious. It was a house we could personalise and make our own. We have landscaped the gardens so that there are lots of little pockets of beauty and interest for our guests.

What makes this villa unique

We are friendly and helpful and want our guets to have the best holiday possible so we make ourselves available for advice on local knowledge, maps, and anything else our guest might need. There is also horse riding less than a kilometer away. Birdwatchers and animal lovers will delight in the rich and varied wild life. There are local pools to cool off in too.

We are an hour from the cities of Parma, & Reggio Emillia and you can go to Florence or Bologna for a day trip. The Ferrari, Ducati and Lamborghini factories are also worth visiting if you are interested in cars and motorbikes.

For lots more information go to our web site

Other Activities: Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and other winter sports, In summer walking, climbing, cycling, horse riding, birdwatching, etc.

There are 2 golf courses within 1 drive from here

Ski: The main ski resort of Febbio is only 15 minutes away. Recently (March 2010) Guilliano Razzolo, a local boy, returned from the Winter Olympics in Vancouver with a gold medal for downhill slalom. The Febbio resort is extremely well designed with a good beginners' slope at the base, near shops and cafes and with a moving escalator and snow machine. Then there are chair lifts. There are over 20km of pisted slopes with a good variety of grades of slopes from the beginner to experienced skier. There is also a snowboard park.

There are also many off piste routes as the locals take the chair lift up and ski/board down the walking routes of the summer.

There are also quite a few ski/board hire shops and you can also try Nordic or cross country skiing or snowshoeing. It is not a busy or crowded resort, in fact it is very quiet. It is really a wonderful big playground in the winter!

This is a quiet, rural location away from the tourist crowds with nice views from the apartment balcony - we really enjoyed relaxing and reading our books here. The hospitality was excellent and a very well priced Italian meal prepared by the owners was thoroughly enjoyed one evening during our stay. Car hire is essential for getting from and to the airport and to explore the area. Excellent local produce and facilities in the apartment to do your own meals. Friendly locals in the shops and hostelries made it a pleasure to potter around the local area. Wild flowers and fireflies at night were stunning, the whole area is very beautiful. We didn't participate in any of the courses but appreciated the creative and artistic ambiance.

In a beautiful setting in the foothills of the Appennines Casa Appennino is perfect for a relaxing stay, an art holiday or as a base to explore the surrounding area.
The accommodation in Appartmento Michaelangelo is spacious and extremely clean with a balcony to enjoy a leisurly breakfast, a living area with TV, nice new bathroom and kitchen and is decorated with murals from Michaelangelo’s works.
Pheona and David were excellent hosts. I was there on an art holiday, painting in their lovely garden and couldn’t have asked for more in the way of hospitality, helpfulness and friendliness. I really enjoyed my holiday with them and would certainly recommend them to others.

This was the best holiday I have had. The appartments are fantastic and very clean with a beautiful garden.
The hot tub is perfect to cool down in the Italian heat and the views from the garden and the windows are breath taking.
The 5 minutes walk up the mountains to the village are stunning with the typical Italian houses and people.
Pheona and David are lovely welcoming people who will do anything to ensure your hoilday is perfect.
I would highly recommend this holiday appartment to anyone. .
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely, thoughtful review. It was lovely having you here; you appreciated the beautiful Italian countryside, the village and the local people (so friendly) and also our garden which is so beautiful in June . We look forward to seeing you again in August......

Once Upon A Fairytale....

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 24-Jun-2012
  • Date of Stay: Jun 2012
Casa Appennino in the small hamlet of Bedogno, Emilia Romagna is in the Tuscan Emilia National Park, is an absolute dream. My family and myself have recently returned from a trip to this beautiful region set in the Appennine Mountains.
The Apartments are spotless and are beautifully themed to Italian Artists, among them Michaelangelo and Botticelli, all painted by talented artist and owner Pheona Kerr.
Each apartment has an array of facilities plus a stunning view of the hills and mountains and vineyards, which make you want to lose yourself in whilst watching Dawn and the Sunset and it makes you realise where Leonardo Da Vinci got his inspiration from.
I was amazed at the beautiful gardens, a splash of colour everywhere you looked with so many different species of flowers., A garden path leads you to the quirky wooden bridge and suddenly you are lost in a fairytale, bees collecting pollen, butterflies fluttering on flower upon flower, lost in the silence and tranquility of this haven.
For extra relaxation there is a jaccuzzi for guests to enjoy, especially whilst watching the sun go down maybe with a glass of local wine!
Meals can be provided with entertainment as David Pheona's partner sings and plays the guitar for the guests. He was also our waiter and served us with lovely local specialities, both he and Pheona were very patient with our grandsons and even planned games for them.
David was also our taxi driver and ferried us back and forth to other places. Villa Minnozzo is about a 15 minute walk from Bedogno, not advisable for those with walking difficulties as certain parts are a little steep, however once there we found supermarkets, cafe's, pizzeria's,bars, shops and even the outdoor swimming pool. Well worth the visit. If you take your time to walk around Villa Minnozzo you will come across many beautiful alleyways littered with picturesque stone houses and a beautiful church that looks across the famous Bosmantova Rock.
We will certainly be returning to Casa Appennino and look forward to seeing Pheona and David who made our stay unforgettable. Our eldest son was so inspired by the tranquility and beauty of Casa Appennino that he proposed to his girlfriend whilst there and they have booked to have their marriage vows take place in the Fairytale garden next year.
Owner's Response: What a lovely review Rossana - we also think this is paradise and it is great to have people here who appreciate the wonders and beauty of nature too. We look forward to seeing you again. Pheona & David
