Despite the small size of the Netherlands, tourism thrives as there is simply so much entertainment in Holland. As a rough guide, Netherlands holidays can be as active or as sedate as you like, and with so many cheap flights to the Netherlands available, there is no reason to delay taking a holiday house in Holland and start exploring all that this wonderful country has to offer.
Our Holland favourites:
Those looking for an active holiday from Netherlands accommodation are in luck. There are more bicycles than people in the Netherlands, and a cycle tour of Holland is a wonderful way to see the sights from your base of a holiday rental in Holland. There are wonderful routes through iconic scenery, with bright tulip fields and windmills marking the horizon. There are numerous fantastic walks through Holland, from the sightseeing tours of famous Dutch cities including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht or The Hague.
Holidays to Holland are a cultural delight. Throughout the urban areas of Holland are some magnificent galleries, museums and exhibitions, from the words of Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Bosch to exhibitions investigating and explaining the Netherlands' numerous UNESCO World Heritage attractions, many of which are centred on Holland's continuing battle with the sea. The sea plays an important part in Dutch life, and there are some wonderful beaches which line the coast. Horse riding, kite surfing, sailing and deep sea fishing are popular activities to try from a coastal rental in Holland.
Although you can enjoy many activities on a Holland holiday, from day spa sessions to golf holidays, there are an amazing number of completely unique and often slightly bizarre options for Netherlands entertainment, from bivouacking in De Heen to visiting the ironing museum in Groningen. There are never two stays in a property in Holland which are the same!
North Holland (Noord-Holland) is the most traditional region of the Netherlands. Holiday accommodation here tends to be in the iconic A-frame houses Holland is famous for, surrounded by dykes and windmills. Culture is alive in North Holland, with the museums, galleries and attractions of Amsterdam, Haarlem and Den Oever (home of the Viking Museum), drawing visitors from around the world.
Zeeland is an amazing land, over a third of which is water. It is in Zeeland that you can really get an understanding of the incredible feats of engineering which have created this country, and really must be seen to be understood.
There is a little of everything which makes Netherlands tourism so popular in Friesland. Sailing and fishing holidays in Holland are focused on Friesland, but there are also some exceptional walks, rides and attractions to discover.
There are a range of great cheap flights to Holland, especially to Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). Eindhoven (EIN) is the gateway to the south, whilst Groningen (GRQ) provides excellent access to Netherlands property in the north.
