VILLA VILLA NOLA : 2 BEDROOMS, SLEEPS 5

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in Paleokastritsa - Villa Nola / Villa Stephanie

One villa (above) and one villa (below) in Paleocastritsa. Private & Independant

One larger Villa Nola, stunning sea / mountain views with new 72 sq metre patio on cliff edge (sleeps 2 to 4/5) and smaller Villa Stephanie (sleep 2/4), mountain view, no sea view. Each property with own facilities in Paleocastritsa. Rented separately or together set in 2,000 sq metres of mature gardens with roses, jasmine and rosemary under 500 year old olive trees. Accredited by the Greek Tourist Board. Both the villas have separate, private verandas and gardens with own BBQ's but same pathway. Quiet location, very short walk to local tavernas, bars, minimarkets and beaches. Free pool use, five beaches & water sports, five to ten mins walk away. Regular buses. Footpaths to mountain villages & famous views of Bella Vista and castle ruins. 12th century monastery, green olive and cypress trees, gorgeous! Great for singles, couples or families. Golf & Aqualand 15 mins drive. AC, satellite TV /DVD and internet inclusive, bring laptop! Both villas well furnished. All you need!

Around Paleocastritsa: The villas are situated in a quiet olive grove above the road on a cliff edge, 5 mins walk from the beaches and small supermarkets. The Oddyseus Hotel (a small family taverna) just below us offers our guests free use of their swimming pool and other facilities (2 mins walk). They host a Greek dancing night every week. From the door of Villa Nola you can walk (45mins) on a very old Byzantium pathway up the mountain to the village of Lakones. The views are amazing over the blue Ionian sea to the Albanian mountains on a clear day. There are tavernas and the famous Bella Vista cafe and viewpoint. The scenes are breath taking. There are many small picturesque, interesting villages within a few kilometres drive where you can experience the Greek village life at first hand and visit their churches/museums. There is a bus that runs every 30 minutes from Paleocastritsa to Corfu town in the summer. Corfu town is 25 kms away. The Delfini taverna below Villa Nola is perfect for meals and a swim.

Corfu Town : Kerkyra ( known as Corfu) The café at the Liston was built by the French in 18th century. The Palace of St. Michael and St. George to the left of the Liston, was built by the British and used as the official residence of the Governor. Prince Philip was born there.St. Spiridon's Church, home to the island's patron 'mummified' saint, is just behind the Liston. The church is impressive and worth visiting, but ensure you are suitably dressed. During the summer there are nightly musical performances of Sound & Light. (The second world war British hospital at the centre of the fort has now been turned into a music school.) The fort is worth a visit during the day. Facing the Liston Esplanade is the Old Fort which was built between the 6th & 19th centuries. The narrow streets radiating off from the Liston, house small shops, churches old mansions, museums or a secret garden. Shopping in all the small shops is a delight and eating at the small tavernas.Wireless Internet at the Villas.

Greek Way of Life, Flora and Fauna : Timing. Greeks do not expect quick service and often frown upon food that is too hot! Waiters will not rush you and will rarely deliver food in the same order as it was placed. Dishes sometimes arrive as and when they are ready - just sit back and relax and you will soon adjust to the Greek way of life! Corfu is small enough to be friendly and large enough to provide you with a never ending change of scenic beauty. And it is never difficult to get from one part of this island paradise to another. Drive around Corfu you can discover the magnificently scenic East coast to the equally impressive, more rugged and quieter West coast. The drives are picturesque, past quaint little villas and thousands of olive trees. The roads aren't crowded, except around the town centre for despite its centuries of history and its splendid beaches and sunlit bays, Corfu remains unspoilt. The olive groves at Villa Nola are 2,000 years old. NEW ADDITION for Villa Nola 72 sq metre patio with stunning sea views

Family has owned the land since 1969 and we have slowly built the two villas and invested in the land and have protected the beautiful views. I am British but have lived abroad for 40 years. Born in Nottingham and grew up in Cornwall and worked in London and abroad. I am happily married with one child and two step children. I have had the honour and pleasure to work for such companies as Vogue magasine (Conde Nast) in London, The Guardian, Emirates Airlines and am now since 1989 working in Muscat, Oman and Dubai, UAE as a Business Consultant. I visit Corfu often and have two wonderful people helping me take care of the property, Yvonne and Dimitri from a nearby village. Yvonne welcomes you and Jimmy (Dimitri) helps with the garden and is our handyman. I love my home and its location and views and love sharing it with guests who understand what we have to offer in our simple, Greek way.

The location is unbeatable and you have the local support team to look after you if you require their help. Price is very suitable for all the facilities you have, internet, satellite TV, all mod cons and beauty. Paleocastritsa is considered a famous beauty spot and has 5 beaches , all within walking distance, shops and minimarkets and a swimmingpool a short two minute walk away for use free of charge. Self drive or accompanied boat rides to all other bays, diving, paragliding all manner of sports, tennis and golf and Aqualand not far either. Lovely old byzantium walks to other villages and Pheonecian ruins too. We have it all and the best views on the island as well as peace and quiet! Gorgeous gardens and BBQ's , very well looked after, lovely destination for a great holiday in comfortable villas with unbeatable surroundings and views.

The 72 sq metre patio in front of Nola really adds to the whole and is just the place for meals and sundowners with breathtaking views! Stephanie is cosy and homely nestled in olive trees with shade from the hot sun. both villas are very much loved, You can read from our reveiws how much!

Traumhafte Aussicht in ruhiger Lage

Owner's Response: Here is the English translation of the review:

We spent two wonderful weeks at Villa Nola. The overall package was excellent: a nice house in a quiet location, Internet access, beaches within walking distance, supermarkets and restaurants as well. Yvonne, the housekeeper, is very personable and helpful contact for all questions. Jane, the landlady, taking care beforehand (and during the stay) lovingly to all concerns. A perfect landlady. The absolute highlight is the terrace with a view of the bay of Paleokastritsa. Since you do not need to spend the evening at a different location.

So happy that once more a family has enjoyed their time with us and the villa and patio:-) We still have a few dates available in September and October so please send an email and book:-) next year is open for bookings at an earlybird price !

Owner's Response: Un autre invité heureux!

Another happy guest! The villa is fine for 2 or 4 /5 people (family) six would be a squeeze. It is 85 sq metres, not huge but the outside areas and gardens are very large. The views as they say are magnificent. You are all most welcome and we are taking bookings for next year already. There are a few dates available in September and October of this year and you are most welcome:-)

A holiday dream come true!!

As a couple we wanted a week away somewhere warm and peaceful but with a choice of activities should we decide to venture away from the sunbeds! We found Villa Nola on the Owners Direct Website and it seemed to tick all our boxes......

When we arrived at Corfu Airport we were picked up by George - the taxi driver recommended by Jane - and immediately got great vibes, he was very friendly, knowledgeable and funny. After a brief journey to the quieter side of the island, he dropped us at the villa where we were welcomed by Housekeppers Yvonne and Jimmy who showed us round and made us feel immediately at home. The villa was clean and well presented and has everything you would need.

The rest of the week continued in the same way, friendly welcoming locals and a beautiful holiday destination which has plenty to do and see. There is a wealth of restaurants offering a great variety of locally sourced produce and wine.

If you have an adventurous nature, I'd highly recommend hiring a boat for the day. Its a little bit more expensive than a taxi but you can explore the coast and find your own little private beach which is only accessable by water.

Thanks to Jane for opening out her home and allowing us to enjoy an amazing week in Paleocastritsa! We'll be back soon :)
Owner's Response: Brilliant! That is exactly what we hope for our guests, a relaxing and comfortable as well as an entertaining time:-) it is always the little extras we offer and ime we give that make the difference. Our July guests are also having a great time and i am sure we will hear from them on this platform. I have had a late cancellation so anyone looking for a villa with a view between 02 September and 16 September please let me know and send me an email from the website. We are also taking bookings for 2014 now! You are all very welcome:-)

A superb escape from winter!

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 26-Apr-2013

We have little new to add to reviews of others about the Villa Nola. The house was in a beautiful position, away from the main road through Paleocastritsa, but within very easy walking distance of the amenities. The views of the coast and the harbour are stunning. We particularly loved the evenings with the scops owls calling and the fireflies darting about in the olive grove.

Yvonne and Jimmy were helpful and accommodating, especially as we arrived on a very late flight. The house was warm and, as prearranged, a small pack of groceries was waiting for us for breakfast.

Our weather was wonderful. We had sunshine all day, every day, with a perfect temperature for walking. We would advise anyone intending to explore the area on foot to try to get guide books before leaving home. We, too, downloaded the Hilary Paipeti Walks around Paleocastritsa PDF file, but as there were no maps, we were not confident enough to follow the rather complicated instructions. We did, however, love the donkey track to Lakones (where the ice cream at The Dolce Cafe is fantastic) and the walk onwards from there to Angelokastro. The wildflowers and butterflies were superb.
Another excellent and quite strenuous walk, but only to be done wearing strong footwear, was from Afionas to the bays of Timoni on the peninsula. This was not easy to find, but worth the search!

We found this time of year to be very quiet on the island with little traffic on the roads. Tourist facilities were just starting to open up for the season, but there are enough facilities for independent travellers. We had a great traditional meal, with no frills, in Elizabeth's Taverna in Doukades.

To sum up, The Villa Nola was a perfect base to explore a very beautiful area of Corfu.
Owner's Response: Brilliant! it is so rewarding to have such glowing reviews and above all the best tips for other guests to use.
Vacancies now only a few days in May, one week in July and the month of October but next year is open for booking with a 15% deposit you can book the dates you specifically require:-) Welcome and Enjoy!

We'll be back!

What can I add to the glowing and accurate reviews already here? I read them all before we went and read them again when we got back, now knowing the places they talked about. My husband and I had always wanted to visit Corfu having read "My Family and Other Animals" as children but never got round to doing it til our 50s! We spent 9 wonderful days at Villa Nola from March 28th despite it being the worst, wettest and windiest winter and spring in Corfu for 100 years! We actually had 3 days of glorious sunshine and only one wet day that stopped us walking. The rest of the time it was perfect for us as our plan was to hike and it was just the right temperature for that.

The central heating kept us cosy in the evenings (although we would have loved to be able to use the woodburning stove) and some evenings we even sat outside on the terrace closest to the villa with blankets round us so we could enjoy the views and atmosphere even more. The description and photos were very accurate but I was still stunned by the views from the villa and spent hours just standing and gazing! We were lucky that the lemon tree was still laden as I always have a lemon and honey drink to start the day and it was great to be able to pick a fresh one every morning.

Yvonne and Jimmy were so helpful and friendly. They recommended Stavros Grill near Tembloni on the road to Alepou. The grilled pork and chicken were delicious with Greek salad, chips, wine, water, coffee and Halva for 23 Euros for 2! Apart from that we just had a nice meal at Smurfs by the beach in Paleo with the waves lapping up against the terrace. Nothing else was open anyway for the first few days as the season hadn't started but we were happy to cook in the villa and Jimmy pointed out all the herbs in the garden which I could use.

We bought a great book (from Amazon) called "Corfu Car Tours and Walks" and did lots of them. We also bought the Hilary Whitton Paipeti "Corfu Trail" and "Walks around Paleokastritsa" (PDF downloads) but generally found the book easier to follow. The only problem we had was walking from Makrades to Georgios bay when we found at the end the Corfu trail had fallen into the sea so had the long climb back!

I was convinced that Corfu would be ruined by tourism and that all the Greek people would speak English but it was not true and I was delighted to find that the few words of Greek I had learnt were useful. I have a year now to learn more before we go back next May. Thanks Jane!
Owner's Response: Brilliant!! Very happy that our first guests of the season were so content and made excellent use of what the villa, location and our beautiful surroundings have to offer:-) Even when the weather is inclement there still is so much you can experience. We do all we can to make sure the villa is welcoming and homely. Great tips, they are always good to have. The surrounding villages do have some great eateries and yes, the views are stunning! I hope to welcome back those who loved it so much and to welcome others for the first time to experience the 'real Corfu', unspoiled and breathtakingly beautiful! Thank you for such a great review:-) Jane, the Owner.
