Holidaymakers looking for beautiful scenery, impressive architecture and plenty of activities will find all this in this in Germany’s Tolz Country. Located in the south of the country, visitors will find plenty of things to do and see here. This region of Germany has many excellent areas for skiing, sledding and snowboarding between October and May. Outside the ski season, hiking and cycling is very popular in Tolz Country with miles of trails providing visitors with magnificent views. The lakes and rivers allow for various watersports such as swimming, fishing and canoeing. Other popular pastimes for visitors in the warmer months are climbing, mountain biking and paragliding as well as golf with numerous courses in the area. Holidaymakers will find many restaurants, bars and cafes throughout the region serving both local and international dishes. Self catering holidaymakers can also purchase food and drinks from local stores and markets held in the region.
Visitors to Tolz Country will see some fantastic natural features and parks. The Partnach Gorge is one such feature well worth visiting and is less than an hour from Bad Tolz. There are many wonderful villages in the area such as Birkenstein, which houses the 18th century Chapel of the Assumption or Benedicktbeuern. Holidaymakers here may like to take a day trip to the bigger towns and cities in the region. For example, Munich is not far away from many of the towns in this area and features historic buildings and museums. There are some fantastic gardens to visit in Munich as well including place gardens and the English Garden. Salzburg in Austria is also a relatively short drive away and has many great sights to visit including the city cathedral and Hohensalzburg Castle.
The warmest time to visit this part of Germany is July and August when the maximum high temperature is 24 degrees centigrade, although June is also very warm. The temperature in December, January and February is cold enough to encourage occasional substantial snowfall. Ironically the higher temperatures encourage the most rainfall in the region with June having an average of approximately 105mm rainfall.
Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport (MUC) is just over an hour from Bad Tolz in Tolz Country and has flights to and from many international airports. Air Berlin and Lufthansa offer the most flights including from Amsterdam (AMS), Athens (ATH), Beijing-Capital (PEK), London-Heathrow (LHW), Madrid (MAD), Moscow-Domodedovo (DME), New York (JFK), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Tokyo-Narita (NRT) and Washington-Dulles (IAD) amongst many others. Car rental companies are located outside terminal 1 with Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo, Sixt and Terstappen all operating from here.
