Holiday at Chalet Basile

After shopping at Carrefour at Sallanches, we drove to the Chalet loaded with good French produce. Travel is always exciting but to arrive is better. The Chalet is reached by a steep driveway – a little challenging for the unexpected. But what a pleasant surprise on arrival. The house is built in the traditional style wood above and white below. The front door leads to a warm, large and generous sitting and dining room with great ceiling height and a sort of minstrels’ gallery from the nearest bedroom.
There is a well set-up kitchen with a serving shelf which acts as a room divider and breakfast bar. And everywhere large windows with enormous , breathtaking views... Views of Mont Blanc in all its moods, views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Views of ever changing light - sun sweeping across vast snow fields (we were there at Christmas.)
The house is set out on four floors and seems to have endless bedrooms and bathrooms and all is comfortable. Crisp clean sheets and shiny bathrooms, loads of hot water. The rooms are of a good size with plenty of cupboard space. There is also tons of storage for ski boots, sticks, anoraks and so on (We chose to leave our skis overnight at the Ski Hire Shop.)
The slopes are a short drive away - I’d guess ten minutes. We would pick up our skis and a short drag lift leads over to a series of lifts and the ski school. We are a family of skiers so we went skiing every day – we were very lucky with both the weather and the snow conditions.
St Gervais Les Bains was a lovely little town – with a good selection of restaurants, shops and small supermarkets.
We had a wonderful trip and would recommend both the resort and the Chalet. One day we hope to return.
