Holidaymakers looking for an interesting and fun trip to the North of France might like to try Nord. This is a fantastic place to visit with so many interesting things to see and do. There are some lovely places to walk, cycle and horse ride in and around Nord including some regional nature parks. The coast is only an hour and a half’s drive from Nord, where there are some lovely beaches ideal for sunbathing and swimming. There are many bars, cafes and restaurants in Nord with a huge variety of cuisine including traditional French as well as international dishes. There are many interesting places to visit in and around Nord including lots of museums and galleries with the works of regional artists such as Rubens and Matisse. Just half an hour from Nord is the city of Lille, where there is Museum of Fine Art, The Contemporary Sacred Art Centre and Charles de Gaulle’s birthplace and museum. The region has some beautiful churches, cathedrals and other historic sites as well as zoos in Lille and Maubeuge. Visitors may also like to take a trip to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and other attractions, which can take about one hour by train or cross the border to neighbouring Belgium.
The climate in North East France is similar to Southern England with the warmest months normally July and August and the coldest December to February. Average high temperatures here are about 22 degrees centigrade in July and August. In January the average high is five degrees centigrade, but temperatures can fall below zero in winter. Rainfall is moderate in the summer with June and July averaging about eight hours of sunshine per day.
Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is approximately one hour and 45 minutes drive from Nord and has flights to and from major cities such as Amsterdam (AMS), Athens (ATH), London-Heathrow (LHW), Madrid (MAD), Moscow-Sheremetyevo (SVO), New York (JFK), Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) amongst others. Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National Citer, Sixt, TT Car Transit and Peugeot Open Europe are car hire firms located at the airport. Holidaymakers can also catch a ferry from Dover in England to Calais and drive approximately one and a half hours south to Nord.
