The Narbonne region of Languedoc-Roussillon is a coastal area of the Aude department. Famous for its stunning, safe beaches and fantastic water sports conditions, Narbonne properties are always in very high demand during the summer months. This region of Southern France is far more traditional and peaceful than the resorts along the Cote d’Azur, with a far greater connection to the countryside resulting in magnificent gastronomy, especially wines, olives and of course, seafood.
The beach life is the major attraction to the Narbonne region. The whole coastline is lined with glorious, sweeping beaches, covered in golden sand. There are many miles of beaches along the Narbonne coastline, stretching many miles into the distance. There are reliable winds which blow onshore mean that water sports enthusiasts flock to the region to enjoy sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing. There are a vat range of suitable beaches for water sports, and all the major seaside towns have water sports centres offering both equipment hire and lessons, available to both children and adults.
The garrigue is a stretch of beautifully rugged countryside just inland from the Narbonne coastline, offering endless walking, horse riding and mountain biking trails to those wishing to explore the natural landscapes of the Narbonne region. Although rich in wildlife and beautifully wild, there are many miles of vineyards to explore too. The wines produced in this region of Aude are particularly good, and there will be ample opportunity to taste and select your favourite during your stay in Narbonne accommodation.
Gruissan is a fantastic seaside resort in Aude, dating back many centuries, the old town is beautiful, and built around a Barberousse fortress. However, it is the wonderfully long, golden beach, lined by over 1300 beach huts, and the wonderful sporting marina that really attract tourists to Gruissan. The beach is ideal for families, as the soft sands slope gently into the warm waters of the Mediterranean, overlooked by lifeguards. There are also many activity options, from nature walks to rock climbing, sailing to tennis.
The blue flag beach resort of Narbonne Plage actually lies 15km from the city of Narbonne itself. Although Narbonne Plage is a highly popular beach resort for families and water sport enthusiasts, there is so much beach to choose from that it never seems crowded.
Leucate is a fantastically colourful village in the Narbonne region. Set four miles from one of the most popular naturist beaches in France, and filled with cafes and restaurants of the highest quality, Leucate is always a favourite place to stay on the Aude coast. The Thursday morning market draws expectant shoppers from across the region.
Saint-Pierre-la-Mer is another excellent beach resort, set on a fantastically long, sandy and safe beach. The large, sheltered marina makes Saint-Pierre-la-Mer a very popular place to take Narbonne accommodation for sailing holidays.
There are a great range of small airports within reach of a Narbonne area villa. Beziers Airport (BZR) receives Ryanair flights from Bristol (BRS), whilst Carcassonne (CCF) is inundated with Ryanair flights from across the British Isles. Perpignan (PGF) also receives a good range of flights from the UK.
