Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday cottage in Sigoules - Les Vachers
5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 10 plus baby

Les Vachers is a stone house full of character which dates back to the 13th Century. It has been lovingly restored to maintain all of it's original features. Downstairs is a large open plan room with a wealth of exposed beams. The large well equipped kitchen has an elm topped bar and the dining area boasts a hand made table which comfortably seats 10. There is a stone fireplace and a separate wood burning stove which runs the central heating. The south facing pool has roman steps leading into it and a shallow kiddies pool. The public golf course and leisure complex of Chateau les Vigiers is less than 10 minutes away. A private nine hole pitch and putt course is set in the 10 hectares of land surrounding the house. Unlimited use of the private course is included during your stay. The private fishing lake is opposite the house and offers very large carp for the serious fisherman and novice alike. Again unlimited fishing is included during your stay.

Fishing: The large well stocked lake offers carp, rod, roach and perch. Carp of up to 1M have been caught in the lake. They have been well fed and offer easy fishing for children and fun for all the family. Previous guests include serious anglers who have been impressed by the size and number of carp in the lake. Catch of 60lb to 80lb per hour is possible. A large hunk of bread on a hook is normally all you need.

General Information: The summer season in the Dordogne offers hundreds of different events from town to town. Bergerac alone has 10 different events ranging from fireworks on the 14 July to long weekends of wine and food festivals. The local restaurants range from 4 course set lunches with wine at 10 Euros a head to the 4 star restaurant at Chateau Les Vigiers. There is lots of information available and the owner is on hand to give you his personal advice.

Wine: Les Vachers is at the heart of the wine growing region, with Bordeaux and St Emilion to the west and Bergerac to the north. There are hundreds of wine producing chateaux in the area, many of whom offer free tasting. The area is often host to wine festivals in the summer season.

Les Vachers is 20km south of Bergerac set amongst local vineyards. Bergerac offers low cost flights from Stansted, Gatwick, Southampton, Liverpool, Leeds Bradford, Exeter, Birmingham and Manchester. Bordeaux airport is 1 hour away. A car is essential in this rural area. Bergerac and Ste Foy La Grande are the 2 main market towns. The pretty fortified town of Eymet is also nearby hosting numerous summer events and night markets in July and August.

Golf: Chateau les Vigiers is a golf and leisure complex which is only 7km from Les Vachers. It offers a 18 hole golf course and driving range. There is also a 6 hole academy course. Visitors are welcome and golfers with a minimum 36 handicap can play with clubs, trolleys and electric carts for hire. The chateau also offers 2 restaurants and a beauty salon with spa and gym facilities.

The private nine hole pitch and putt course with par 3 holes and a couple of par 4s has been set in the 10 hectares surrounding the house. Number 3 with a shot over the lake is particularly challenging! A full range of clubs are available to use at no extra charge. Ladies clubs, left handed clubs and even kiddies clubs are all available so no excuses not to have a go. The owner doesn't take much persuading in joining you for a round.

Les Vachers

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 25 August 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'Les Vachers'! The house is full of character, spacious, well equiped and a very comfortable 'home from home'. Alan, Sandra and JJ were excellent hosts who made us all feel very welcome. A lovely, peacefull, rural location which is within easy reach of local towns and supermarkets but you do need a car.
We all enjoyed playing golf and the fishing was great fun! Alex (11yrs)was particulary proud of the 10lb carp he caught. We didn't have brilliant weather, so we didn't use the pool as much as we'd have liked, but this didn't spoil our holiday as there is plenty to do and see in the area. We particularly enjoyed the walks in the area, which were all well signposted, and the markets at Eymet and Issigeac. We also enjoyed wine tasting at Monbazillac and shopping in Bergerac. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family and would love to go back again ourselves.

Les Vachers review

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 12 August 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Had a fantastic holiday, the property is in a really nice rural location with easy access to local towns and other amenities. The outside space really makes this property, our two year old son loved spending time in the pool, fishing or on the grounds of the golf course. Alan and Sandra were brilliant, they have vast knowledge and provided everything we needed, they are genuinely nice people. The actual property was clean and had was really well equipped, it is full of character and charm, if I was being ultra critical I would say that the property could do with a bit of updating. However that had no bearing on our stay, the property comes highly recommended, we had a great family holiday, we hope to return soon.
Jamie & family.

Excellent Holiday!

Review Submitted: 24 July 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The photos do not really do Les Vachers justice, the stone house is lovely, full of charm, rooms were spacious, well equiped and everything was lovely and clean.
The private golf was great and we all had a go. Fishing became easier once Alan gave us a few tips and everyone caught a fish.
Alan is a fantastic host, he knows the area inside out, recommended some lovely places to visit and places to eat. He also was spot on with the weather forecast every day!
I would definately recommend this property and the kids (three teenagers) all thought it was great and want to go back next year.

Holiday Aug 23rd - 6th Sept 2008

Review Submitted: 10 September 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
The six of us (grandparents, hubbie, myself & 2 boys under 5) had a great 2 weeks staying at Alan & Sandra's farmhouse. The area is lovely, very picturesque & very peaceful which makes a real difference for us suburban types. Lovely walks from the farmhouse across to Thenac allow you to get up close to the vines & sunflowers in the fields as opposed to just driving past! 1st week the weather was glorious so spent a lot of time in & out the pool, playing golf, picking abundant blackberries & figs in Alan's fields, canoeing & going for walks. 2nd week was not quite so nice so did more visiting, worth a mention are: St Emilion, Bergerac, Issigeac, Monpazier, Belves & Beynac. We also made our way through voluminous quantities of local wines & cheese so we were thoroughly happy! The farmhouse is rustic and a lot of effort has gone into keeping the original features and that's the real charm of the place, we were extremely comfortable. Alan & Sandra are a lovely couple who really go out of their way to help you get the best out of your holiday. We would definitely recommend to friends & may well return another year ourselves.

Review Submitted: 03 August 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We stopped at Les Vachers for 2 weeks in June 2008 - Great location, although require a car to get to shops and restaurants. Rural area, lake fantastic for carp fishing and hosts (Alan and sons) very friendly and helpful. Pool is good and house is large. Good large kitchen and dining area. We had fantastic weather and you do need the fans provided to keep cool upstairs at night. It has original features which are nice but could probably do with a freshening up of the decor. Golf is good for a knock, certainly for kids as well, but the course is a little wet and rough in areas. Recommend for a stay, Alan is a great bloke and will look after you!!
