Bastidon des Oliviers is set in over an acre of terraced olive grove with a spectacular overflow pool, enjoying glorious views over the surrounding countryside. It is less than ten minutes walk from the hilltop village of Claviers, near Bargemon. A secluded location, yet within easy access of the Côte d’Azur resorts.

The large, split level property comprises a self-contained three bedroom villa on the upper level and an independent two bedroom apartment on the lower level, ideal for two families sharing. The villa and apartment can interconnect through the large utility room.

The main villa comprises a large living and dining room, fully fitted oak kitchen, one double and two twin bedrooms, spacious bathroom with washbasin and WC, shower room, individual WC and separate washroom/WC. The apartment comprises a spacious living room with a curtained off archway through to a twin bedroom, separate double bedroom, kitchen fitted with oak units and shower room with washbasin and WC.

The Villa Grounds: The property is set in its own terraced olive grove in a peaceful location, offering splendid views from all points over the surrounding hills and the villages of Claviers and Bargemon. The villa and grounds are South facing and enjoy maximum day long sunshine throughout the year.

Silk trees provide natural shade for summer dining on the terrace in front of the villa, and there is also a covered patio in front of the apartment on the lower level. Both dining areas have gas barbecues and benefit from lovely views over the surrounding area.

The poolside is fully equipped with garden furniture and parasols. The large overflow pool (11m x 4m), pool terrace and extensive private gardens are available for the enjoyment of all guests. There is an attractive balustrade at each side of the pool to prevent children jumping off the terrace and there is a child safety alarm for the pool. There is also a gate between the villa and the pool.

A quiet road leads directly from the grounds to Claviers village, about a 10 minute walk away.

The Local Area: Claviers is located in a beautiful area of The Var, boasting some of the finest scenery Provence has to offer. The countryside is predominantly wooded hillsides dotted with picturesque, perched villages and interspersed with luxuriant valleys and deep gorges sparkling with fast flowing rivers and crystalline rock pools. The Claviers area has all of this, plus mile after mile of pine and olive groves, vineyards, châteaux and villages untouched by the passing of time. Quite incredible when you appreciate how close it is to the sophisticated coast.

There are numerous interesting nearby villages. Seillans and Bargemon have both been voted amongst the most attractive villages in France but in our view all the local villages are very attractive and worth a visit in their own right. Other villages include Callas, unspoilt and typical of the area, Fayence, the largest and busiest with a lovely viewpoint and famous gliding club and Chateaudouble, perched on the edge of it's gorge.

The Cote d'Azur: The Cote d'Azur has been known since the early nineteenth century as Europe’s leading playground. As a holiday destination it is unsurpassed in the world, offering a beautiful stretch of coastline backed by the jagged peaks of the Alps, superbly maintained top class resorts, magnificent promenades and gardens, as well as a plethora of historic towns and ancient hilltop villages amid fabulous countryside and with an exceptional climate, cuisine and wine. The coastline is an ever-changing series of glimmering bays interspersed with rugged rocky peninsulas and dramatic cliffs falling straight into the sea. The coastal towns are renowned the world over. Cannes is a 45 minute drive from the villa, Nice and St. Tropez one hour and St. Raphael 35 minutes.

The coastal drive on the from La Napoule to St. Raphael is full of dramatic scenery backed by the red craggy mountains of the Esterel National Park. It is here you will find our nearest coastal beaches (35-40 minutes drive).

Bastidon des Oliviers villa apartment is an independent two bedroom apartment on the lower level of a split level property, with a separate three bedroom villa on the upper level. The apartment is located below and to one side of the villa, ensuring maximum privacy for guests. Both dwellings are fully self-contained with private terrace space and separate entrance. The apartment comprises a spacious living room with a curtained off archway through to a twin bedroom, separate double bedroom, kitchen fitted with oak units and shower room with washbasin and WC. The apartment may be rented as an independent unit with the exception of July and August, when we only accept bookings for the entire accommodation. If the villa and the apartment are let separately, the apartment is normally only let to a couple. Apartment guests enjoy their own private covered patio with a gas barbeque and lovely views over the apartment garden and hills. The pool area is shared with the villa guests.

We (Jill and Ray) bought Les Chenes (property Ref 6350) as our permanent residence in 1994. We have been renting the property out as a holiday home since 2002 when we moved into another house which we had built near Seillans. We bought Bastidon des Oliviers (property ref 9397) in 1998 with a view to renting it out as a rental home. We live permanently near Seillans and actively manage our properties ourselves so they are always maintained to a high standard and we are on hand to solve any problems that may arise during the course of the rental season. When renting holiday homes for ourselves we have found that it can be a big advantage to have the owners on hand.

We fell in love with the area as soon as we first explored it as it is very beautiful, quieter than the coastal resorts and yet has easy access to the Cote d'Azur. It is just over half an hour's drive to the coast at St Raphael/Frejus. The main reason for our choice of Bastidon des Oliviers was the location of the villa within walking distance of the village of Claviers and the fabulous situation. The property is located in an acre and a half of terraced olive grove which has beautiful views over the surrounding hills and the villages of Claviers and Bargemon.

The property is conveniently located for access to the village and yet is very secluded and quiet, which is not always the case for houses located within walking distance to the village. There are amazing views from both the villa and the apartment, which are quite separate, and the infinity pool is particularly spectacular. Looking in one direction you can see the village of Claviers and in the other, Bargemon. Our land is totally private with no overlooking houses and a quiet path leads from it to the village. Claviers is a lovely quiet village, virtually unchanged from it's medieval past and yet has all the conveniences you may require and a choice of bars and restaurants. Bargemon is a much larger village with a beautiful shaded square with numerous bars and restaurants.

Superb holiday villa

We spent a superb week in this beautifully situated holiday villa! Perfect weather and the pool area just is like from a picture book!! So beautifully done and with a fantastic view on the picturesque valley! You can sit under trees or in the sun, whatever you like.

The holiday villa is perfectly situated to go for nice excursions to Tourtour, Aups and of couse the spectacular Verdon Canyon! And on the other hand you can reach the Côte d'Azur in lonly one hours ride from this holiday villa! We went for beautiful coast walks on the Cap by St. Tropez an St. Raphaël.

Furthermore you can walk on a beautiful path in the morning to get your bread in Claviers (or of course take the car and you get there in 3 minutes) and the little historic city of Bargemon (a 5 minuts drive, on the top of a hill) is perfect to get a drink on the lievely terrasses on a typical Provence square with lively restaurants, cafés, bakery, butcher and shop for everyday's needs.

In short: we can really recomment this beautiful place in Southern France!!

Bastidon des Oliviers is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, less than ten minutes walk from the splendid hilltop village of Claviers, near Bargemon (voted “one of the most beautiful villages in France”). The property is set amongst terraced olive groves in over an acre of land on a hillside with a spectacular infinity pool, enjoying glorious views over the surrounding countryside. A fabulous secluded location, yet within easy access of the Cote d’Azur resorts, which can be quickly reached via the A8 motorway (20 minutes away). It is a 45 minute drive to Cannes or to the Gorges du Verdon, 1 hour to Nice airport or St. Tropez and 35 minutes to the nearest beaches at Fréjus or St. Raphael.

Claviers is located in a beautiful area of The Var (the “département”), boasting some of the finest scenery Provence has to offer. There are numerous interesting nearby villages. Seillans and Bargemon have both been voted amongst the most attractive villages in France but in our view all the local villages are very attractive and worth a visit in their own right. Amongst the nearest are Callas, unspoilt and typical of the area; Fayence, the largest and busiest with a lovely viewpoint and famous gliding club; Callian, ancient and very pretty; St. Cezaire, perched on a cliff edge, and Mons, nestled in the hills, with superb views over the Gorges de la Siagne and the coast. And, if you prefer swimming in a lake or want to indulge in watersports or fishing, Lake St. Cassien is just a short drive away or you can visit the impressive Lac de Ste. Croix at the entrance to the Gorges du Verdon. Most outdoor activites are available locally including hiking, climbing, canyoning, golf, tennis, gliding, non-motorised watersports on the lake and most watersports at the coast.

  • The pricing quoted is for the apartment only except for the peak period when we only accept bookings for the entire accommodation so the price is for the entire property (villa plus apartment) for up to 10 people. The apartment may be rented as an independent unit with the exception of the peak period. If the villa and the apartment are let separately, we normally limit apartment occupancy to a couple so maximum occupancy for the entire property will be eight. The villa will be rented to a maximum of six people.
  • Pricing is fully inclusive of gas, electricity, linen and cleaning prior to and after your stay plus a brief weekly clean for stays of two weeks or more. All arrivals and departures are on Saturday except in the low season.
  • There is a £200 refundable damage deposit for the apartment, due at least one week before arrival. A 20 % deposit is required to book and the balance is payable 12 weeks before arrival.

Notes:
The apartment is fitted throughout to a high standard and fully equipped with modern appliances. All the cutlery, utensils, glass, oven and tableware you’re likely to need are provided, as well as a microwave, oven & grill, kettle, coffee maker, toaster and fridge/freezer. There is a TV (free to air satellite channels including all BBC TV and radio programmes), video player and hi-fi with a small number of CDs, cassettes, videos and English books. All rooms have electric heaters for winter lets. Cooling fans and anti-mosquito devices are provided for the summer. A large utility room with a washing machine, ironing board and iron is available for the use of all guests. We provide sheets and continental quilts (and/or blankets, if you prefer) for all the beds, together with one bath towel and one hand towel per person. The linen is changed once a week and the accommodation will be thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival with a briefer weekly clean during stays of two weeks or more.
