Escape to Stigny

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 31 August 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
This quaint cottage is perfect for a quiet break in the heart of Burgundy. There is easy access to places such as Auxerre, Noyers, Fontenay Abbey and Dijon. The nearest town of Ancy-le-Franc is very accessible and has all the amenities - including a very good charcuterie, boucherie and patisserie.

The house itself is small but not too cramped for a family of four. It had all the facilities that you would need, including a well-equipped kitchen and a barbecue. Stigny is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area, whether by car, bike or on foot. A particular highlight was the Burgundy Canal where you can cycle for miles along the quiet towpath.

Karen was a perfect hostess - very welcoming on arrival and always available if needed. Karen took us to the village fireworks on our second evening - which our boys really enjoyed, particularly the latern walk back to the cottage afterwards. Karen also supplied us with some beautiful fresh vegetables that were from her garden, which we enjoyed immensely.

We falled in loved with this place and its owner! Very quite and cute! This is right place to go If you want to have peacefull holidays with long walk, enjoying delightfull landscapes, reading and reflections. We all had a feeling like we had visited our friends or relatives instead of renting the house. Thanks Karen for that!

Cozy cottage in a country-side France

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 04 May 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
We greatly enjoyed our stay in La Poterne Gite in Stigny, Burgundy.
Our hostess (Karen) was very friendly and helpful. The house is very comfortable and clean. It includes all necessary amenities which made self-catering very easy and not time-consuming at all.
The house is very old, but in perfect condition, it wonderfully conveys the atmosphere of the country-side.
The house has a completely private garden and is located in a quiet and picturesque village. The neighbors are very friendly, but except for the hosts, nobody speaks English not a little bit, bear that in mind.
The village is surrounded by forest and fields, which are perfectly suited for walking. It easily reached by car, and parking is abundant.
We recommend the La Poterne to anybody who seeks to enjoy the quite magic of rural France and escape the buzz of big cities.

Peace and tranqility in the French country-side

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 16 November 2010 Date of Stay: May 2010
A lovely Gite with plenty of room for a family of four (best if you are not too tall though as some doorways are 3/4 size). Easy driving distance to surrounding points of attraction including scenic local villages and great vineyards ie the town of Chablis. If you like doing your own cooking as we did, there are fabulous local markets and fresh produce vendors giving access to everything required to whip up your own provincial french feast. We visited in late May when all the fields were a sea of yellow and green from the wheat and rapeseed crops. An area I would definitely go back to and this is a beautiful little cottage to use as the 'home away from home'.

Relaxing, quiet yet close to interesting places

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 28 August 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
La Poterne in the quiet village of Stigny was an enjoyable, memorable place to stay. The stone cottage was delightful - the best room was the charming sitting room with the open fire which we lit each night. The outdoor area was also well used - a lovely sunny spot to have lunch or read, when we happened to be home. Mostly we visited many surrounding places of great interest - Montreal, Flavigny, Noyers (a must) Clamency, Vezelay, Chablis, Abbey de Pontigny, Chateau Ancy le Franc, Abbey de Fontenay, Source of the Seine, Auxerre etc. Karen, Clive and Joanna made us very welcome and were on hand to help at all times. The house was well equipped, clean and tidy and easy to live in, very comfortable. It would be great for a family with 2 children and would happily recommend it my friends.
