Malestroit, known as 'The Pearl of the Oust' is a 'Petite Cite de Caractere' situated on the banks of the River Oust and the Nantes-Brest canal. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this medieval town is ideally sited as a base from which to explore the Morbihan area. The coast is 25 minutes drive away and there is a lake for swimming at the renowned village of Rochfort en Terre, which is just 10 minutes away. This region is ideal for walking, cycling, fishing or exploring the beautifully preserved towns and villages surrounding the Gulf of Morbihan. There is a good choice of lovely uncrowded soft sandy beaches as well as castles and chateaux to visit. Malestroit itself is bustling market town with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. On Friday evenings in summer there is a free concert in the main square.

The beautiful Chat Noir!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 September 2012 Date of Stay: July 2012
For those of you planning your next French holiday, stop now & book Le Chat Noir!Having spent a week here in July with elderly parents and our dog I cannot recommend this beautiful house enough. If you were to buy your perfect home in France, this would be it!. The owner has made every effort to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and everything is perfectly clean & tidy. The decor is calming, the sun room is fantastic for chilling out, reading a good book (and dozing if I'm honest!). The town is within easy walking distance and has just enough going on without it being too busy. It is very pretty with so much to see and lots of great walks along the canal. There are several wonderful restaurants with varying prices, we ate in several & loved each one. There is a great little bar on the square, a great stop off for a cheeky Kir Breton .The house is in a perfect spot for exploring too, we visited lots of areas (beautiful coasts & towns everywhere), I would highly advise you to stay here. We've travelled around France a lot and haven't stayed yet in a house this pretty with so much on it's doorstep! Enjoy!

Le Chat Noir

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 15 August 2012 Date of Stay: June 2012
We stayed at Le Chat Noir in June, the owner Linda was extremely helpful and kind. It is a lovely house situated in an ideal location. It is very well equipped for a family stay with the accommodation spread over two floor, a lovely sun room and garden.

The small old town of Malestroit is very interesting, situated on the Nantes/Brest Canal it is ideal for long canal walks, plenty of inexpensive good restaurants and supermarkets. There is just so much to see around and about this town as well visiting the attractions of Brittany.
Owner's Response: I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. My garden has coped with a very strange summer - either saturated and beaten down by heavy rain, or sun-bleached and parched by soaring temperatures, so I am just grateful it was still a pleasant place for my visitors to enjoy. Most people love just wandering around the old centre of Malestroit; and really appreciate the fact that they can eat out and enjoy a drink or two without having to use the car to get back home.

Fantastic House

Review Submitted: 13 January 2012 Date of Stay: August 2011
This is a lovely house and we had a great holiday here.

The house itself is beautiful - very clean and well maintained - much nicer than our house at home! Linda was very friendly and helpful and available when needed.

We loved the town and being able to walk for bread and croissants every morning was great.

We would recommend it and we'd also very happily return to stay.

living the french dream

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 July 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
If you have dreamt of living in France,
renting le chat noir will give you the opportunity to fulfill that dream even if it's just for a week.

In my opinion the house is more beautiful than the pictures portray, I felt like I was on the set of a country living magazine shoot!

We spent the majority of our time in the gorgeous sun room, which was the perfect place to crash out after a cycle down the canal.

The house is well equipped, even having wifi which was a great help when researching the area. (which is superb)

An added bonus is the lovely lush garden to relax in..heaven!!

Thankyou Linda for sharing your house with us we loved it.

A spacious house in a gem of a town!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 22 September 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
My wife and I stayed at Le Chat Noir in June 2010 and the house was exactly as described. There is plenty of space for families to spread out - with seating areas in the kitchen/sun lunge, living room and of course outside too. For the two of us we rattled about a bit and could easily loose each other!

Malestroit and the surrounding area has much to offer and you will easily fill a week or two visiting places that are within an hours drive. Malestroit itself is a real gem and deserves its "little city of character" status and with bakers, supermarkets and restaurants within a five minute walk you have everything you need on the doorstep.

Linda was a perfect host and very responsive to the reservation request/booking and was also most helpful to us during our stay. She was also very discrete too living in her own 'summer house' at the bottom of the garden when the house is let.
