Set on the banks of the River Thames in a private, quiet off street square, the owner has created a warm and inviting family home. A member of the ETC for 9 years now, a 4 star S/C award from the English Tourist Council has been maintained each year. This house provides excellent modern accommodation for up to 6 people. There's FREE WIRELESS INTERNET, PRIVATE PARKING and 40' HD TV. Located in Zone 2 of Central London's Underground Network, it's the cheapest tube fare and very easy to reach everywhere in town. Use the local Black London taxis, Red London Buses, the Underground or the River bus. We have 3 local tube stations, Canary Wharf, South Quays and Crossharbour. There are Supermarkets nearby and some fine restaurants allowing us discounts. VISA / MASTER-CARD ACCEPTED FOR BOOKINGS.

Private Square location with Spectacular views : The front of the property has suburb River views, there are no passing cars, no fumes etc., just tranquil tidal waters teaming with fish and wildlife. The occasional passing ship or cruise liner slowly sails by, as does the River bus on route every 15 minutes East to Greenwich or Westminster up river. Catch this at Canary Wharf Pier.

The other side of the property has beautiful lawns in a communal Private Square filled with mature rose bushes, lawns, trees and seating, affording the most charming and private of holiday locations.

Each house has it's own private parking reservation adjacent, which is free.

EXCEL EXHIBITION CENTRE is close by and easily accessible by car or train. Other business attractions are the marbled HQ offices of World wide large financial Institutions, located at CANARY WHARF, within easy walking distance. The 02 ARENA is across the Thames, easily reachable via local trains. The famous Billingsgate Fish Market is nearby for the best catch of the day!

Restaurants: As would be expected given the close proximity to the City, there are plenty of excellent local restaurants to suit most palates. Nearby Billingsgate Fish Market ensures the very best of seafood for the public purchase and London restaurants.

An excellent Indian Restaurant is within easy 5 minutes walking distance and WE HAVE NEGOTIATED A 10% DISCOUNT WHEN YOU BOOK FROM THE HOUSE. ALSO, A SECOND INDIAN RESTAURANT NEARBY AT SOUTH QUAY STATION ALSO ALLOWES 10% DISCOUNT TO OUR GUESTS, Plus a 3rd Restaurant. FULL DETAILS AND CARDS TO SHOW ON ARRIVAL, IN THE HOUSE.

There is a local supermarket just 5 minutes walk from the house, which is open from 7.30am until 9.30pm.

Plus, there are lots of local tourist attractions and a superb selection of speciality shops in nearby Canary Wharf.

There are landscaped gardens with waterfalls and fountains, a very large selection of eateries and clothing shops. It's a very rich area teaming with financial traders who live and work in the area.

Getting around Town: With so much to see, we have excellent transport arrangements.

Travelling around town is a breeze, literally. The River Bus operates during commuter hours and there's also the Central London Underground, particularly the Jubilee Line. So one can be wisked off to pastures new, in minutes.

The house sits in Zone two of Central London, this is the cheapest zone on the Underground, thus, the cheapest ticket!

Greenwich, (which sits in zone 3, the next rail ticket price band), The Tower of London, The London Arena Concert/Sports Stadium, The Excel Exhibition Complex, Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge, the 02 Arena are only minutes away.

About Ms. Christine James

Hello everyone, having worked in London from a young age, I grew accustomed to travelling in and around London and after a few years settled as a single business woman in this area of London. They were very exciting times with marbled skyscrapers popping up everywhere and new restaurants to try and new transport links. This was in the 1990's. I drove into town each day and found that this was a convenient location, with off street parking at the house and full of local attractions.

When I met my current Partner he lived in the Midlands of England, so I duly moved but not wishing to sell this lovely house, the idea dawned on me to rent it for short periods. Thus, I would have a foot in the area. I have many siblings and an elderly mother to visit who live nearby and I so enjoy the ever-changing River views.

Ms. Christine James purchased this house in 1997
Why Ms. Christine James chose Canary Wharf and Docklands

Having to travel the Country with my work in the Building Industry, I was initially based in Southgate, North London at the base of the MI motorway. Looking to move after a time, nearer to town, I ventured into the Docklands area and was struck by this property, which was under offer. However, I waited and waited and the prospective buyer started to barter the price down. The Scottish couple that owned the house wouldn't sell then and took it off the market for six months. The agent contacted me and along I came with my hand outstretched offering to pay the full priced asked. I think they didn't believe me at first but eventually the purchased was completed without any twist or turn on the price. I have owned this property happily ever since.

My local housekeeper looks after it for me and we both work hard to ensure our guests are made as comfortable as possible.

The travel Industry has been kind to us and after a few years we were turning away guests, so we purchased another property nearby, this time a two bed, two bath apartment which we also gained 4* status for from the English Tourist Council, who inspect each year and grade again. 4* every time for each property.

What makes this house unique

The unique benefits for this house are: Superb River views; local transport connections are excellent; local tourist attractions; good restaurants; quiet private location; quiet streets away from the main traffic areas; good bus service; local Theatres; local markets. Parking

More recently, we now have the 02 Orena for live concerts; the New Olympic Stadiums and the supporting new shopping centre 'Westfield at Stratford; Bike Hire from outside the private square.

Please visit our dedicated web site where we have posted lots of links to the main areas and attractions. www.vacationsinlondon.com I have seen many sights on the river, a beached Whale, a mother and daughter Dolphin lost, they swam by and ended up at Westminster Pier; the Queens Jubilee last year, all the magnificent tall ships sailed by to moor at the end of each day in Canary Wharf locks. We have many returning guests each year and some of their reviews can be viewed here and on our own web site, noted above. I hope to hear from you sometime. regards Christine James

The best 1st trip out of the U.S.

The trip my parents and I had to London as unforgettable. I chose to rent this home and it was the best location. Not too far away from the "busy" area, but just far enough and calm enough. The view was amazing from all floors, the cleanliness, organization of information for new-comers, and lay-out was beyond amazing. There was s much helpful information there, it was ike I had lived in Canary Wharf for years. The weather was gorgeous for us to do our tourist thing, and the "tube" maps and eatery suggestions given by Christine were also helpful. It was fun to talk to the neighbors and be able to st in the courtyard outside the townhouse. My parents and I enjoyed all the main attractions, as well as some of the little pubs. We enjoyed walking the dock and seeing the dinners on the water. I suggest to anyone to take the river tour, walk the westminister area, and make your way to picadilly circus for entertainment. Always remember to keep your Oyster Card on you, becausI believe th tube train is the best way of transportation. This was also in my notes from Christine. I was so surprised at how many things were organized for us, it was remarkable how much a person took the care and consideration to set up books fortheir visitors. I would go back again. . definitely. Thank yo again for the stay. . my parents will always remember their 1st trip out of th U.S.

Our visit

Review Submitted: 17 May 2013 Date of Stay: March 2013
Dear Christine,

I enjoyed my stay at your lovely vacation home for our 10 days earlier this year. We all quickly adjusted to the busses, ferries and underground and were able to visit most all of the places we wanted to see including sights out of London such as Warwick Castle and Stonehenge. We enjoyed the Tower of London and Greenwich and found a number of restaurants and pubs to our liking. We shopped the grocery stores successfully, cooked 3 or 4 dinners and all our breakfasts in your efficient and pretty kitchen.
Your tour books, albums and notes were of great help and went a long way to getting us “into the picture” very quickly. It was so nice to have a home to come to at the end of our busy days. Arriving from a pretty warm California, I feel a little guilty about thoroughly enjoying the rain and snow, but it really didn’t stop our enjoyment one bit. We were able to see Billy Elliott one evening with perfect 4th row seats purchased at the last minute that day. On a couple of half-days, I elected to stay home to do a few chores and enjoy the view and watch various projects being worked on and just “kicked back” all by myself. It was lovely.
Thank you for your gracious help with our little queries. I surely would recommend your rental. I’d not been to East London before, but have read many novels describing how The Isle of Dogs used to be and marveled at the beauty it has become.
Warmly, Joan

Excellent 3 bedroom

The clean 3 bedroom apartment is set in a quiet neighborhood on the Thames with a view of the O2 Arena. The description of the apartment was spot on. Since we stayed for 9 nights the housekeeper came after 4 nights and cleaned the apartment and changed the linens. That was a bonus we did not expect. The entertainment system was excellent and the wifi was sufficient especially since we had to contact people after the Boston Marathon. We were able to enter the apartment early which was nice especially after a long night flight to London. Obtaining the key was easier than expected. We chose to walk to Canary Wharf every day to catch the Jubilee line. It was a nice 15 minute walk, and decided it was easier than to walk to South Quay and catch the DLR only to have to change to Jubilee. We also chose to have our main meals out so we did not use the full kitchen facilities. The 3rd floor bedroom was the largest and the best so put your dibs in early! We have stayed in Christine's apartments before and have recommended them to our colleagues.
Owner's Response: We are fortunate at this house to have several modes of transport available.
The red London buses are fine late at night after the Underground has stopped service, there is a bus service that stops right at the square, but they are too slow during the day, given the traffic. My preferred method is a little more expensive but it’s traveling in style. The river Shuttle Boat picks up at Canary Wharf Pier and travels with the seagulls, along the Thames stopping at "St Katherine's Dock" at Tower Bridge, then at Embankment for the "London Eye" and other cultural locations such as Southbank Theaters. Lastly, it stops at Westminster Pier, all in all it taking about 15/20 minutes with the stops included. Lastly, we have the Docklands Light Rail which you can catch at South Quay Station. This is the closest rail station to the house, being just 5/6 minutes away. Two routes West, alternating to Tower Gateway (Tower Bridge) or to the heart of the City of London, Bank Station, every two minutes, “Bank” is where most other Underground Lines cross so it’s a hub for connections. Outside this station though there are lots of places to visit, not least St Paul's Cathedral.

However, as with Patrick, should you choose to walk to Canary Wharf, passing South Quay rail station, cross over the road, walk through the buildings and find the labyrinth of waterways with the “mini Manhattan which is Canary Wharf” nestling in the middle. Here you have some 200 Shops and eateries to explore, as well as the Docklands Museum and many ships in dock there. The Jubilee Rail Line connects here.

From South Quay, alternatively travel to the East and you quickly arrive at “The 02 Arena”, Greenwich and also Stratford where you can explore the new Olympic stadiums and Westfield Shopping Centre. Happy holiday, regards Christine

Riverside does exactly whats it in the name. A clean spacious house with picture windows overlooking the Thames and Dome. Now when I say overlooking the river the seawall is less than 15 metres from the front door !

Apart from the property itself is the location in a quiet square away from main roads with parking. The light railway is a 5 min walk and one stop to Canary wharf.

The perfect city retreat so comfortable I look forward to returning.
Owner's Response: We are very pleased to receive this review and to know that the property delivers what we claim.

My housekeeper and I work hard to ensure that our guests are accommodated in the most comfortable way, really we prefer for our guests to return year after year. This group of folk have done just that for 6 years now and always book on departure for the next year. 2014 is already booked for them, for 10 nights.
We have been renting this property for 10 years now and there is natural wear and tear. We always ask for feedback on departures so that we can take account of our guests comments when our annual plans and budget are scheduled for redecoration and the purchase of new replacement furniture. Each year we advise our returning guests on these changes and upgrades made in-between their bookings.

I would say that about one third of our bookings each year are returning guests, from last year or the year before.

Kind regards Christine James
