Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday home in Chalton - Gostelow House C1540
5 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 cloakroom, sleeps up to 14

Gostelow House, circa 1540, is a Grade II listed building surrounded by ¾ acre of secure gardens. There is an outdoor pool, bar, patio area and barbecues for your use. This family house is of half timbered Tudor design, and whilst it retains its character with inglenook fireplaces and low ceilings and beams it has all the modern touches you would expect.

The house is situated in the small village of Chalton which has a farm selling fresh free range eggs. There is a good dining pub a few steps from the house. The larger village of Toddington is 2 miles away and has a historic church, a library, a number of village shops, various takeaways and four pubs. Leagrave, a suburb of Luton is 3 miles away with fast access to London (45 min) and Bedford (20 min). Milton Keynes 15 miles to the north, offers a wealth of shopping and entertainment. Oxford and Cambridge are an hour's drive away.

Hen Weekend

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 28-Mar-2012
  • Date of Stay: Mar 2012
Perfect weekend - 12 of us stayed at Gostelow House for my Daughter's Hen Weekend.

The weather was fabulous - we were able to make full use of the beautiful garden with cocktails on the Friday night at the bar!, breakfast in the garden and some of the girls even took a morning splash in the pool - in March!!

Carole could not have been more helpful, answering my ever ending list of questions, very generously left us some bottles of champagne to start our celebrations and returned the deposit immediately.

Perfect venue

I stayed at Gostelow House for a weekend with friends to celebrate my
birthday. We were all so impressed at the comfortable and inviting
atmosphere and the beautiful decor.

The owner of the home was most helpful in helping me to organise the
weekend, accommodating my specific requirements and providing me with
ample information about the home and the surrounding area.

I would highly recommend this holiday home to anyone wishing to host a
similar event for up to 14 adults.

Charming location for relaxing with friends

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 13-Apr-2011
  • Date of Stay: Apr 2011
Ten of us stayed in Gostelow house for the weekend to celebrate my husband's 30th Birthday. The weather was incredible, so we were really able to make the most of the beautiful and well-manicured outdoor space in the garden and of course the outdoor games (though not quite warm enough for the pool or BBQ).

Top marks go to the owner, who couldn't have been more accommodating .... as the reviews mention, she was very responsive to our questions and weird requests, she kindly left some celebratory champagne and a personalised message, took delivery of our online shopping and returned our deposit in double quick time.

The decor is rustic and comfy (rather than modern). There is a hugely well-equipped kitchen. The house is so unbelievably quaint with wonky floors and wood beams. There was plenty of space for 10 adults, but the dining and sitting rooms may have struggled to comfortably accommodate many more grown ups.

If you're after proximity to a pub (but far enough not to be noisy) then you can't go far wrong here! We had a most enjoyable and hearty meal there on the Friday.

All in all, a memorable weekend in a fantastic location. Many thanks!

Everything we wanted, and more

  • 5 out of 5

Gostelow House was a great place for our stag do. There was plenty of room for all 14 of us - whether that be outdoors in the garden around the barbecue, or relaxing in the dining room or lounge.

Carole went out of her way to ensure we had the perfect stay, even leaving us two bottle of champagne for our arrival. She also helped with advice on local taxi firms, pubs and activities.

The Star pub next door serves up decent food, is very welcoming and is literally 50 yards away.

The local village of Toddington (less than 2 miles away) can be highly recommended for a night out - the curry house is worth a visit as are the 7 pubs (at least half of which were playing live music when we were there on a saturday night).

Would highly recommend for a weekend away, very easy to get to from London as well.

Gostelow House

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 12-Jan-2011
  • Date of Stay: Dec 2010
A dozen of us rented Gostelow House for four days over New Year and it proved to be a great choice. For anyone self catering there is a very well provided kitchen and a proper dining room. Fires in both the dining room and living room contribute to the cosy feel. Extremely easy to get to from the M1 and only 10 mins from Leagrave station. Plenty of countryside nearby for those who fancy the fresh air. We played golf at Chalgrave Manor (5 mins) and the girls went to the Spa at Luton Hoo (25 mins). There is a pub next door to the house with a pretty extensive (if standard) menu if you fancy eating somewhere you can easily stumble home from. The owner could not be more helpful - always handy when you're in an area you don't know well."
