Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Horning - Seymour Cottage
2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4

Seymour Cottage is a cosy Victorian cottage centrally located in the picturesque Norfolk Broads village of Horning and is just across the road from the river. Features include entrance hall, bathroom, open plan lounge/kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, TV, CD Player, DVD player, electric storage heating, front courtyard garden, secluded upstairs patio, use of small private staithe on the river, private car parking. COTTAGE SWAPS CONSIDERED.

What can I do here?: The three main attractions are the Norfolk Broads (rivers and lakes) with rural countryside, the historic cathedral city of Norwich and the wonderful sandy Norfolk Coastline including the bustling seaside resorts of Cromer and Great Yarmouth. All this is less than 30 minutes drive from the cottage.

What are the Norfolk Broads?: The Norfolk Broads are a unique combination of slow meandering rivers with beautiful lakes (locally known as Broads). The river banks include thatched cottages with immaculate lawns (and gardens), reed beds (used for roof thatching) and many pretty staithes (a local word for a place to moor your boat). The best way to enjoy this wonderful National Park is either on-foot or by boat. Boats can be either hired (by the hour or day) or take an organised trip - Norfolk boats are either motor cruisers or traditional wooden sailing yachts.

From November to February each year at a remote beach near Seymour Cottage, a large seal colony comes up onto the beach to give birth to their young. The fluffy, white babies can be viewed close up, whilst the adults can be seen lazing on the beach and playing in the water. This is a wonderful chance to see wild seals in their natural environment and should not be missed.

seymour cottage

Review Submitted: 15 October 2012 Date of Stay: September 2012
The cottage was very cosy and although we initialy put the heating on as it was cool outside we soon had to turn it off. It had every thing we needed for our break. The cottage was very clean and tidy . The bathroom is a little small but we had no problem with it. All the information the owner gave was accurate so no unforseen problems.
The fishing access is not suitable for someone with mobility problems but there are other places around the village to fish.
As it is in the centre of the village it is an ideal location and the chinese takeaway is just across the road and can be highly reccomended.
We did not eat in the New Inn as you had to book a table. When we asked about that although it was only 8.45 pm and they should have taken orders until 9.00pm we were told the kitchen had closed.it was also the most expensive for drinks. The Ferry Inn was great, friendly staff ,good food and always busy. They even remember your drinks when you went back to the bar. Best Pub in the village. Horning is a pretty village and an ideal place to base yourself. Do not miss your trip on the river with the paddle boat, great fun and friendly staff.
Will deff be back

Seymour Cottage, Horning

Review Submitted: 11 September 2012 Date of Stay: September 2012
We were disappointed with this cottage.so much so we did not stay for the full week. We knew the bathroom was downstairs when we booked but did not realise the difficulties my friend would have going up and downstairs in the night. We thought a good idea was to do away with the patio outside the twin bedroom and use this space to make an ensuite with shower and toilet. The patio had no view.
Beds were comfortable and view from front bedroom over the water was lovely. Found the open plan living area dark, kitchen basically equipped, had to soak mugs and teapot as badly stained inside. Nowhere to hang towels or washing to dry, no airer. Would not have used shower needed a good descale.Cottage was clean. We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and have never been as disappointed as we were with this cottage.
Owner's Response: I was sorry to hear that the cottage was not suitable for your needs. When I heard your friend was recovering from knee surgery I went to great lengths to describe the cottage and pointed out that the bathroom is downstairs, although there is a stair rail and wall to hold on to. Unfortunately turning the upstairs patio into an en suite bathroom is not a feasible option!
The photo of the patio in my advert does not show a view although it does face our neighbour’s cottage garden and in summer is a perfect, sheltered suntrap.
The lounge area is often bright and sunny but unfortunately for the week you had the cottage the weather was poor and it was dark everywhere.
The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of cooking equipment, utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses for a party of 5 people and I am happy to provide an inventory if guests would like this. I do apologise if the mugs were stained as many of our guests obviously enjoy tea and these stains can be hard to remove, but I will replace them straight away as we like to maintain high standards.
There is a heated towel rail in the bathroom and a row of hooks just outside to hang towels on and also a towel rack in the kitchen area. There is also a washing line and clothes pegs so that washing can be hung on the patio, although for a week’s stay this is not usually necessary or guests use the launderette down at the marina (by the swimming pool).
I was disappointed to receive this review a month after your stay and I do wish you had contacted us while you were at the cottage so that we could have had the chance to deal with any problems you had. We want our guests to have an enjoyable stay at our cottage and return on future occasions. Fortunately this is usually the case and our many 5 star reviews endorse this.

Just right for a few days away on the broads

Review Submitted: 15 August 2012 Date of Stay: July 2012
This is a lovely little cottage and is just a short walk from the local shops and pubs of Horning. We totally agree with the other reviewers on the interior, it manages to be cosy and spacious at the same time. There is a small staithe, which is just big enough to moor a day boat or for two people to fish from. We would recommend Seymour cottage to anyone, we will certainly be going back again.

Perfect Hideaway

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 08 August 2012 Date of Stay: July 2012
My partner & i found Seymour cottage to be the perfect hideaway. It is so cosy and the location is wonderful, we had perfect weather and being able to sit out on the balcony and enjoy a bottle of wine of just divine. Anyone thinking of staying here should do so, from the front bed window you can easily see the river and the cottage lies just adjacent to the closest pub although all the pubs and restaurants are within easy walking distance of 5-10 minutes and all serve great food. There are also convinience stores in the village to provide you with all you need. We will definetly be returning to the cottage.
