Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Great Rissington - Green Cottage
Sleeps 5-8; 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms

Green Cottage is a substantial grade II listed cottage in one of the most sought after villages in the Cotswolds. The origins of the property go back to 1750 when it was two labourers cottages and each generation has left its own mark. The existing owners' contribution includes a stylish CP Hart bathroom and installing the Cotswold born 'Everhot' range cooker in the kitchen. The property makes a perfect base for exploring the key towns and villages of the Cotswolds, or walking its hills and valleys. For celebration dinners or otherwise, the well known landmark, the Lamb Inn is within a stones throw of the cottage. For those wanting to enjoy alfresco dining amidst the delights of an English country garden, Green Cottage has a wonderful terrace on the edge of the Windrush Valley. If the days are cold and wet, go indoors, bake on the Everhot, enjoy a roaring fire in the lounge or toss a log on to the wood burner in the dining room. For the children there is plenty of space in the garden (and the house) for them to run around and indoors there is a full size bar football table and plenty of games. Whatever the season and weather Green Cottage has something special to offer. It comfortably sleeps 8.

Green Cottage is steeped in history. The original bread oven is still to be seen in the dining room. In 1914, Green Cottage was occupied by the Soul Family. Mrs Soul sent 5 sons to the First World War. It is said that Mrs Soul lit a candle each night in one window to guide her boys back but none ever returned. No British family lost more sons in the Great War. Great Rissington church contains pictures and details of the Soul brothers. There is also futher information in Green Cottage.

New for the 2013 season is an Everhot range cooker. Manufactured not far from Gloucester, this state of the art cooker provides a constant heat source together with three ovens, an induction hob as well as hotplates. It's perfect for hosting large parties or for those wanting to try out new cooking experiences. In addition, in the large garden to help energetic children (and Dads) run off their energy and develop silky football skills, a Samba 12ft x 6ft goal has been set up...so don't forget your football!

Great Rissington is in the heart of the cotswolds located neatly between the three jewels of the Cotswolds, namely Stow on the Wold, Bourton on Water and Burford. There is so much to do and see. There's The Slaughters, Bourton on Water (Maze, Birdland, Model Village, Car Museum), Barringtons (Annual Gifford Circus), Batsford Arboretum, Cotswold Farm Park, Cotswold Wildlife Park, Bibury (Trout Farm). Or easy day trips to Oxford, Bristol, Bath, Stratford, Cheltenham (races), Warwick Castle, not forgetting the huge amount of Roman history in the area. Or perhaps old houses are your interest. There's Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle to name just a couple. And if you don't want to sightsee, the countryside lends itself to lots of wonderful walking - it's a great way to see and appreciate the Cotswold landscape and you can walk right from the front door of the cottage - no need to get in the car!

[The garden does have a pond at the far end, which is screened off (we have youngsters, so we know the concerns!)]. If they need some down time, then there is a dvd player; some kids dvds available to watch; free view with cbeebies; WiFi is also available. If you have a little one, then there are some bath toys, a high chair and a travel cot to use. When the garden is in season, there are different fruits (apples, pear, rhubarb, gooseberries, black/red currants, plums, raspberries) & fresh herbs. Everyone loves a fresh bit of veg or fruit on their plates, picked by their own hand, so do help yourself. Unfortunately, we can't have pets of any kind, due to the owner being highly allergic.

Girlie weekend

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 13 May 2013 Date of Stay: May 2013
We have just spent the most relaxing weekend in this idyllic cottage. We were a group of five women and found that we had more than enough space to spread out. The owners were extremely helpful from booking right up to arrival and everything was explained clearly. The cottage was spotless and there was everything we could possibly need. As the weather wasn't that great for our weekend away we weren't able to sit out on the beautiful patio and admire the wonderful garden but instead we took advantage of the comfy sitting room and the roll top bath! We're thinking of booking for next year already!

Our stay at Green Cottage in Little Rissington

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 12 May 2013 Date of Stay: May 2013
We had a lovely stay at Green Cottage over the Bank holiday weekend. The quaint cottage is a great combination of character, coziness and modernisation. There is loads for the the kids to do both indoors and outdoors... toys in the cottage and a beautiful garden to explore. We were lucky to get some bright sunshine so managed to do some walks in the glorious neighbouring countryside. Anita and Jeremy are very accessible but everything is so well thought of and organised that we did not need to contact them at all. Overall a great weekend, we would certainly go there again!

First rate stay

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 07 May 2013 Date of Stay: April 2013
The description of this property doesn't really do it justice, located in an idyllic village in the Cotswolds, within easy driving range of Oxford and Bath, a short walk away from a fantastic village inn. There are plenty of attractions around, but it felt like a pity not to spend more time in the cottage itself. The cottage was more than big enough for a party of five with all the facilities we needed for our stay. Everything was in good order when we arrived (very late at night), with good information to help us get organised, and everything was well maintained and clean. We had no problems during our stay, but when we sent a message to say we had arrived the owners got back to us right away to welcome us and let us know they were willing to meet any needs we might have had.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to family or friends, and would certainly return.
The closest thing I had to a problem was that I had difficulty getting a good mobile signal on the T-Mobile network, but I wanted to get away from it all, so that was actually something of a plus.

Lovely spacious cottage

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 21 April 2013 Date of Stay: March 2013
Our family of 5 stayed here over Easter. We love this area anyway and have been to Great Rissington before. It is a great location to explore the Cotswolds, escaping the over-crowdedness of Bourton-on the-Water but close to many interesting places to visit (including Bourton which has lots of attractions). There are lovely walks from the doorstep, down past the local church and across fields, past the Windrush river. Lots to do for children with the Cotswold Wildlife Park a 15 minute drive away, a lovely National Trust walk at Sherborne with natural wooden play equipment, the motor museum, bird world and model village in Bourton on the Water, Chedworth Roman Villa to name a few and many unspoilt villages and towns.
The house itself was very spacious, homely and comfortable. We felt like we were in a home rather than an empty, stark holiday house. Our 3 boys of 8, 6 and 22 months loved it. If you have a young child, don't bother taking any toys - there are plenty for boys and girls to play with, including bath toys, a wendy house, loads of dvds for toddlers to older children and a fantastic brio set that all 3 boys enjoyed building a huge train track with around the summer house and table football which our 8 year old loved. The garden is enormous with lovely views and again plenty for children to play with.
The beds were very comfortable. We are terrible sleepers and very fussy about beds in other places but we slept very well here, no sagging middles or springs sticking out!
We had an enjoyable stay here despite the freezing conditions outside!!!

Altogether heavenly!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 10 January 2013 Date of Stay: December 2012
What makes staying in this delightful cottage all the more special is that it is so obviously loved and cared for by its owners. Upon arrival you immediately feel at home. The cottage feels very spacious yet so cosy (and once you've got the Aga warming the kitchen and a fire going in the living room, you're set!). We were two families of four - with two babies and two toddlers - and the toddlers had a blast! The cottage is extremely family-friendly and there are countless places to play in both indoors and out. Great Rissington is also a perfect vantage point to visit some of the most beautiful villages in the Cotswolds. We stayed over New Year and we loved every minute - looking forward to coming back in warmer climes and firing up the BBQ and making the most of the fabulous garden.
(Top tip... waitrose delivered to the house the afternoon we arrived!)
