London can be expensive but there are some locations that cater for the frequent traveller. Check out Panton Street off Leicester Square for a 3 course menus for under £10. When last I checked, there were 3 or 4 eateries in this street off Leicester Square, to choose from, offering different fare for families on a budget..

We have been vetted by the bank to provide these Merchant Services which we have enjoyed for some 10 years now. If there were to be a problem then this facility would be taken away from us. Other methods of payment are available.

We can also provide a reference for our hospitality via our 10 year membership of the English Tourist Council who advertise our two properties in their own web pages. They have vetted us each year and we have maintained our 4* rating for the level of comfort we provide. the self catering facilities and general decor the apartment.

There is a video telephone in the apartment hall which allows you to speak to someone at the front door who wishes to enter the building, you can operate the front door catch for them to enter. They will be passing by the reception area on their way to you. You may also speak with the concierge on the front desk from here and he also can phone you if he needs to contact you for any reason, perhaps just to let you know that your taxi has arrived. This contact with the reception, which is manned 24 hours a day, 7 day a week, can be invaluable. You are not left on your own.

Things to do:

There are River Boat Cruises, or River Shuttle Bus trips to Westminster or down river to Greenwich are available every 15 minutes from Canary Wharf Pier. Along the River Thames are frequent shows, recently we watched some of the 1000 sailing craft of all types and style sailing past to join in the River Pageant for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. It was superb.

Also, in the park at Canary Wharf there are frequent film broadcasts of the current Opera showing at Covent Garden. Garden. All for FREE.

Do check the local press for details as well as the apartment literature and the show literature in the reception, the chaps are there to help.

The 02 Arena is only 5 minutes away, with live concerts being shown most evenings. Pre booking is advised for most shows. There are lots of restaurants if you fancy just taking a look at the 02 arena facilities and checking out up and coming shows. There is also the International Exhibition Venue, Excel International nearby. All links to these places and lot of other tourist attractions are linked to on the apartment's dedicated web site, www.vacationsinlondon.co.uk

The new Olympic Stadiums are close by and easily reached by train or car, in about 6 minutes.

Most of the London Museums are free now and also young children travel on the Underground for free, ask at the ticket office for age limits, last mention it was under 15 years to qualify.

Our local Airport, London City, will jet you away to the Continent. Local business men use the airport shuttle service whereby you just turn up, take a seat on the plane and pay on board the aircraft. Most European Capital Cities are within 30 minutes flight time.

The main train stations, i.e. London Bridge, Euston, Kings Cross can take you to other parts of England within an hour or so via fast Pendolino Trains. Making visiting other Cities in the Country easy and comfortable. Visit Brighton in 40minutes from nearby London Bridge (twice an hour for the service) Or Birmingham in 1hour 40 minutes, capital city to city. Fast and easy.

For just £3/5 take a bike from outside the apartment ! Free for the first 30 minutes you register your credit card, type in the code and take the bike across town. The London congestion Charge keeps most traffic light so bike riding is comfortable. Then park it up at one of the many bike stations within the 30 minutes and the service is free. A small cost if you take it for longer or just take another bike each 30minutes! Ten minutes gets you to Tower Bridge by cycle.

You will see lots of joggers in these quiet streets. The picture gallery has lots of shots of the area.

Black taxi cabs take 5 people for the one fare, if this is the preferred travel method, we can provide a local taxi company details for the Ionian Residents to any where in town, the residents, that's you, are afforded a preferential rate.

From our guests notes left, it is well worth visiting 'The Grapes' for a fresh fish supper, (booking is sensible as it's very popular and the second floor is good as it overlooks the River Thames. Just 3 minutes walk away from the apartment. Look out for the many celebs that frequent this Historic Smugglers Inn. (Tipping is only done when happy with the service and when it hasn't already been added to your bill, just check the last item for a hidden service charge, this may be 10 or even 15%. in my younger days I was often fooled by this and tipped twice without realising. We never tip in pubs, just restaurants really.

There are several high profile restaurants in the area, we have listed some in the Ionian Apartment dedicated web site. Most tastes are catered for and also budgets. The links will take you to their menu pages for reference.

Going to the Theatre, it's good to check out the half price formal ticket building in Leicester Square. That's the brick building in the middle of the Square. The tickets that aren't sold for the day are displayed for purchase at a price much cheaper than their ticket value. Check the seat placement along with the ticket price, all if you can visit the Theatre on the same day. Ask the ticket office for the free leaflet on the show.

There is so much free stuff in London, particularly for families, so do ask at your local Tourist Information Office before arriving in London as they often can provide vouchers for you to use with savings.

If I can help you further just ask, after living 20 years in this lovely Capital City, I can find my way around most places and I am happy to advise.

Thank you for stopping by, hope to hear from you. regards Christine James - Owner - Manager.

Why Ms. Christine James chose Canary Wharf and Docklands

Hello, we purchased this modern apartment to back up our rental activities in London. I have been active in this industry for 11 years now with some notable success. Having lived and worked in London as a young women for 20 years I was well placed to choose the best area and facilities to suit young families and business folk wanting privacy, ease of getting around town with an eye on expenditure while at the same time wanting the best facilities. The apartment is bright and airy with full self catering facilities, two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, off a wide corridor. Inside the living area all is open plan. The full kitchen leads into the dining area and then on to the lounge with it's french windows that open onto the balcony and the gardens outside. Look to the left to London's skyline, look straight ahead a few yards to the train station and small supermarket next-door.

This area had always been a favourite of mine with it's smugglers Inns and nostalgic cobbled streets, often a drop off point on the way home from work in town. My friends and I would sit and sip in the pubs on the River's edges and contemplate holidays and weekend plans. It is close to the tube, Limehouse, which also has an overhead line C2C, one stop into the City area, Fenchurch Street, or you can travel to the English East Coastal parts. On the tube, you can get into London via two stops, then travel where ever in town you wish. Fast and easy.

Nowadays, there are joggers in these quiet streets and cyclists. Most of the area has been revamped leaving the Historic Inns and riverside walks. There are new restaurants a plenty, Gordon Ramsay has purchased the Pub across the road which is now revamped and called 'The Narrow' after the street in which it sits. Jamie Oliver's 'Jamies Place' is a few minutes walk away in Canary Wharf and there are many others. There's lots of information on my dedicated web site and many pictures. I hope you will visit there. www.vacationsinlondon.co.uk

Located in the most historical part of Central London, west of Canary Wharf in the popular Mosaic Centre, just two mins walk from Limehouse Rail Station, only two stops from Canary Wharf eastwards or 2 stops on the train west-wards to Tower Bridge. Nearby there's Limehouse Basin full of yachts and cruisers and across the street is the River Thames and two very famous 17th Century pubs. “The Grapes” and “Booties” are well documented and renowned locally for their suppers and traditionally brewed ale. (Going from our guests book, our guests dine at the Grapes frequently and recommend it over Chef. Gordon Ramsay's Gastro pun, 'The Narrow' nearby. ) The river shuttle bus travels from Canary Wharf to Westminster Pier or down river to Greenwich or to the futuristic Thames Barrier. It stops along the way, westerly at Tower Pier, Embankment and then Westminster, all in 10 minutes from Canary Wharf Pier.

Canary Wharf is reached via the Thames Riverside walkway. This is the heartland of London Financial City with one of the best shopping malls London has to offer. There are some 90 exclusive shops and as many restaurants. There are weekly events most of which are free. (5 meter square TV screens covered the Olympics for free.) Canary Wharf has parks and fountains, fine waterside pubs and eateries. A very relaxing place to browse and sip.

From Limehouse you can travel on the C2C (Coast to coast) main line trains to East of England's coastlines. They also travel West into Fenchurch Street Station, London's main City trading area. About 4 minutes travel time.

At Stratford and further out at Greenwich, you will find the new Olympic Stadiums. Stratford also has a large shopping Mall, namely Westfield Shopping Centre which was filled with competing athletes recently, to the delight of the shop assistants. 3 levels of air conditioned shopping with outside walkways, sculptures, fountains and parkland which lead into the Olympic areas. Well worth a visit. As is The 02 Arena, also an Olympic Venue this year. Besides the International Concerts you will find numerous restaurants and bars, even a sand pit for the children, so one can just browse what is on and soak up the atmosphere.

The 02 Arena is across the River thames via the local train, in about 5 minutes travel time from Limehouse Station on the DLR Line.

There is so much on offer from this location, travel to European Cities from City Airport, via their shuttle service, flights to all main european cities. Or travel on the Eurostar to Paris in under 2 hours train time, from Kings Cross. Get to Kings Cross Station in just 15 minutes. Or why not travel from London Bridge to Brighton for the day. Trains run twice every hour from London Bridge, the journey time is under an hour to Brighton. Many city workers travel in daily to work in London. All this as well as the attractions of London, it's many markets, Museums, Royal Palaces and Parklands. It's water pageants, changing of the guards, street entertainers and trendy clothing areas such as Carnaby Street. Still as good as in the sixties with small designers shops from here and around the world. For speciality areas we have trendy Covent Garden, Brick Lane for good Indian food, Camden Markets, Greenwich observatory, Borough Market for foodies, Billingsgate Fish Market for fresh fish from 7am till 8.30am most days. a few hundred meters away.

Lots more information is added constantly to our dedicated apartment web site. Recent additions would be the 'Boris Bikes' (our London Mayor is Boris ) the cheapest way to get around London is by free bikes, free that is for the half an hour. a bike docking station is at Limehouse Station across the street. You take one, ride away and dock it again where you arrive in town. Take another one 5 minutes later for another free half an hours cycling. They are all over town. The congestion charge applies to cars only during peak times so traffic in town is kept at a minimum. Fuller details on the routes to take are on our web site www.vacationsinlondon.co.uk. You do need a credit card to get started but this is so they get the bike back, the company who operate this service is Barclays Bank, so you don't have to worry about your card details.

Nearby we have Southwark Cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral, The London Mint, where the money is made, Tower Bridge and The Tower of London , you know what happened there! Lately, the Crown Jewels are kept here. Steeped in history, this area is is well worth a visit.

Other Activities: water sports, river cruising/dining, bird watching, Exhibitions centers, Multiplex Cinemas, Markets, Museums and Parks. We have many notable restaurants owned and run by Chefs from all over the World. Some are noted in the web site pages mentioned earlier with links provided so that our guests may book ahead. On the door step at the apartment we have 'La Figa', a fine Italian, as well as 'Verdi's' a Deli Bistro, a Dry cleaners and a small Deli supermarket.

Notes:
This apartment building has a luxurious reception area with a sweep of comfortable sofa’s and side tables, a resident’s private courtyard garden and ground floor private meeting/or dining rooms which can be booked. Generally, this apartment offers a discerning tourist or businessman a self-catering, self-contained alternative to expensive hotel living. It’s well located and ideal for a short, relaxing and comfortable stay. The 3rd floor accommodation is all on one level and is part of the popular Mosaic Centre which is a block raised up from the street level by steps/ramp and has three fine restaurants, a deli supermarket , all on site, plus dry cleaners. The reception staff are there 24 hours a day 7 days a week, so there is always someone on hand to assist if required. They are friendly, knowlegable and have often guided my guests in all sorts of ways, as noted in the guest comments. The apartment has a state of the art TV, 40' LCD Flat screen with full satellite package, included.

Great apartment with even a greater location. Stones throw to the river, nearby pubs and 120 seconds from the tube @ lime house, two stops east of tower hill and London Tower. Third floor apartment with no noise from the streets, thus very restful nights sleep for all. Large full size refrigerator for beer and full sky sports package for easy watching of any sporting event. We (4 of us) had a wonderful time and would come back again! Well lit apartment complex with great security. Everyone was helpful with directions to grocery stores and pubs. The owner Christine was very nice, helpful in booking the unit, quick to respond to email questions and honest! Most of all there were no surprises.......the unit was 100 percent as advertised.....the pictures were real, and the unit is very clean......like living at home. Have at least one supper at The Grapes, and reserve a table on the second floor overlooking the river.....better food than Gordon Ramsey's The Narrows. Have a great vacation!!!

P.S. The owner Christine, the location and the price makes this a 5 star winner!

My husband and I took our boys to London for a graduation gift. We stayed in this lovely apartment for 6 nights. This apartment has plenty of room for 4 people. 2 bathrooms was a very nice feature. The apartment was quiet, clean and well maintained. There is a small grocery just outside as well as the wonderful Fugi Restaurant. We ate there twice! We were a 2 minute walk from the light rail which hooks up with the subway system (The Tube). If I know of someone planning a stay in London, I will definitely look up this rental property for them. Thank you Christine James - your apartment was everything we thought it would be.

Hi Christine,

I just to drop you a quick line t say thanks so much, the apartment
was perfect for us and we had a lovely stay. The little extras do
make it very welcoming, and it was a fab location.

The Friday and Saturday at the olympics was indescribable.... and
just the whole atmosphere of London was brilliant.

Regards
Karen

We had a wonderful time in London!

"We had a wonderful time in London!
It was always nice coming back to the apartment in the late afternoon after exploring London for hours. It's such a good place to relax (especially with the flatscreen TV + Sky and well working showers...). The apartment is clean and spacy, it even features a small balcony. An extra plus is a safe car park on the premises, which we appreciated very much as we travelled by our own car.
DLR connections are very good, we used a 7-day Oyster Card, children under 11 are even allowed to travel for free. A Tesco Express is located near the DLR station and two restaurants and a snack bar can be found on the piazza.
We can recommend the apartment very much and would rent it again anytime.
Our special tip for London: Go to Greenwich on a Sunday - there's a thriving market and some nice pubs - and then walk back through the Thames foot tunnel.

Familie Meyer/Althainz, Germany"

Best regards, Silke

PS: Thanks a lot for the welcome cupcakes, very tasty!
