The Connecticut Shore covers more than 100 miles from the beach of Stonington in the east to the city of Greenwich in the far west. It overlooks Long Island Sound and is a prestigious area for sailing and yachting with small historic harbour towns which are a delight to visit.
Holiday rentals on the Connecticut Shore are in great demand in the summer months but they are equally lovely to spend time at during the spring and fall. Tiny towns and villages are huddled around small harbours which offer boat trips and local fishing excursions. Walkers will enjoy strolling the beaches picking up treasures at low tide or exploring the well-marked trails through the gently rolling hills further inland. Cyclists can take the gently rolling road from Noank to West Mystic and drivers can discover cider mills, vineyards and charming towns in the area which are filled with antique centres, art galleries and craft shops. The area also has plenty of small museums all relating to the sea.
The old port town of Mystic has 19th century homes of seamen and shipbuilders along with small upmarket shops and restaurants. The Mystic Seaport Museum is an exhibition about whaling and shipbuilding and is a must-do from your Connecticut holiday rental. Set on 40 acres of the former George Greenman shipyard it includes old ships, houses, commercial operations and shops in this living museum of Connecticut Shores history. Visit the beaches at Noank and Groton Long Point or head for Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, a 125-acre natural sanctuary with a number of trails including one laid out for the blind, complete with Braille notices.
Holiday rentals along Connecticut Shores enjoy warm summers with temperatures reaching an average 82°F (28°C). From December through February the area has snow and freezing temperatures. Spring is a pleasant time to visit and enjoy the scenery but this area of New England is best known for its stunning autumn (fall) foliage when the trees are dressed with bright red, orange and gold leaves. The region has rain throughout the year with fewer showers in the summer.
There are several airports serving holiday rentals along the Connecticut Shore. Bradley International (BDL) Airport is in the state capital, Hartford. Other nearby airports include Boston Logan International (BOS) Airport in neighbouring Massachusetts or the JFK (JFK) and La Guardia (LGA) International Airports in New York, about 100 miles south. A hire car is recommended for reaching the Connecticut Shore area and for exploring this charming region of New England.
