Tenerife holidays in North Tenerife is a haven of peace and beauty, far from the usual tourist haunts that captivate the majority of tourists to Tenerife. Traditional lifestyles and agriculture are still very important in the North, and it is here that you will find the most secluded, peaceful and picturesque parts of the island.
The national parks of North Tenerife are a real marvel. Filled with exotic flora and fauna, parks including the National Park of Las Canadas, Icod de los Vinos and the Masca National Park, are well worth exploring, and there are plenty of marked walking trails leading you to the finest spots in the area.
The Tenerife Carnival is held in Santa Cruz, and is often cited as being the second largest street carnival after the famous Rio Carnival. The Carnival is an amazing sight, filled with colour and noise. Graceful dancers, costumed revellers and amazed spectators fill the streets, and the festivals peak, which arrives on the Friday night, is a spectacle in itself, when almost anything goes! Tickets for the coronation of the Carnival Queen go on sale a week before the event.
North Tenerife is certainly not short on beaches either. The coast is lines with beaches, ranging from golden sands to the famous black volcanic sands that Tenerife's beaches are famous for. Water sports are less readily available than they are in South Tenerife, but there are still plenty of opportunities to go scuba diving, deep sea fishign and windsurfing from a self catering North Tenerife villa or apartment.
Tenerife’s capital, Santa Cruz, is a fantastically vibrant town, filled with hidden delights. Although the city does sprawl a little, the Anaga Mountains provide a stunning backdrop to the shop, museum and gallery filled streets. The waterfront provides a perfect antidote if you need one after enjoying the excellent shopping. Many people have visited, been captivated and ended up in long term lets in North Tenerife, or even buying!
The coastal town of Candelaria is a beautiful town steeped in centuries of history and famed for the large statue of the Virgin Mary that washed up on its shores in the year 1390. The town is quiet and deeply religious, as well as being a perfect spot to really relax into a Tenerife lifestyle.
North Tenerife Airport or Los Rodeos Airport (TFN) is just 11km outside Santa Cruz. Although there are no direct flights to North Tenerife from the UK, there are a great number of connecting flights throughout the Canary Islands, Spain and much of mainland Europe.
