Holidaymakers looking to get away to a beautiful scenic and mountainous retreat need look no further than Wildschönau. Located in the Austrian region of Tyrol this holiday resort offers many things for visitors to do. Wildschönau is a terrific ski resort in the winter with 70 kilometres of ski slopes and snow making facilities should the weather not be helpful. The resort offers downhill skiing, cross country skiing, sledging, snowboarding and winter walking.Outside the winter season there are breathtaking views to be gained for hikers and cyclists. Golf is enormously popular in Tyrol and as a result there are numerous courses in the region. Paragliding, swimming, fishing and horse riding are also popular pastimes in Wildschönau.There are many bars, cafes and restaurants in the area offering local fare. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drinks in the local stores. Skiing equipment and other sportswear can be purchased or hired at stores in the town. A craft market is held at the farming museum every Thursday
There are a number of interesting places to visit in the region including historic building and churches in the towns of Oberau, Niederau, Auffach and Thierbach amongst others. The resort also has a couple of museums, namely the 1st Tyrolean Wood Museum and Z’Bach Mountain Farmer’s Museum.An unusual feature of the mountains is the nine statues of St Francis’ Path. The Kundl Gorge is another interesting and attractive place to visit here as it connects Wildschönau Valley with the little town of Kundl in the Inn Valley. The smallest town in Austria, Rattenberg and Kufstein with its fortress or Kitzbühel can all be reached in a very short time.
Temperatures in the Tyrol region of Austria vary sharply during the year with July the hottest month. The average maximum is 25 degrees centigrade in July with June and August almost as hot. December and January are the coldest months with temperatures regularly dipping below zero degrees centigrade and a good deal of snowfall occurs too. Ironically June and July also have the most rainy days per month.
The biggest airport in the Tirol and the nearest to Wildschönau is Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport, which is approximately 70 kilometres away. The airport handles regional flights around Austria and Germany as well as seasonal flights from other European destinations including London-Gatwick, Amsterdam, Dublin and Moscow-Sheremetyevo. Car rental offices are located in the main hall and on the ground floor of the multi-story car park. Alternatively Munich Airport is 115 kilometres away and handles more flights to and from cities such as Amsterdam, London, Paris, Madrid, New York, Toronto and many more. Again there are car rental firms located at the airport.
