Not many places in the middle of Europe can boast year round outdoor attractions but Hochkönig's Bergreich is one such place. It is situated among the Austrian Alps in the state of Salzburg and offers fantastic panoramic views throughout the year. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, chalets, apartments and camp sites.
Hochkönig is a wonderful location for walking with great scenery all around and 340 kilometres of hiking paths for people of all different levels of difficulty. There are also several Nordic walking trails at the Active Fitness Park in Maria Alm. Cycling and horse riding are also very popular with visitors to the region.
There are several excellent golf courses in the Salzburg region including an 18-hole championship course between Saalfelden and Maria Alm. A 1.6 kilometre Alpine slide will also provide great fun for all the family in the summer, whilst in the winter skiing is popular here with great facilities for holidaymakers.
In the villages of Mühlbach am Hochkönig and Maria Alm, self catering holidaymakers will find several places to dine including restaurants, cafes and inn. There are also shops such as a bakery, supermarkets and other places to purchase gifts and souvenirs.
Summer lifts take tourists up in to the mountains where they can enjoy spectacular views and alpine flowers. There are many interesting places to visit in the region with ancient buildings and museums well worth visiting. Holidaymakers can take an excursion to numerous places nearby such as Hohenwerfen Fortress or the Open air Museum at Grossgmain.
This beautiful part of Austria also boasts some wonderful natural features such as the Giant Ice Caves in Werfen. Salzburg is a wonderful city to visit full of history and culture and was the birth place of Mozart. Excursions are also available to the highest waterfalls in Europe at Krimmel.
July and August are generally the warmest months in his part of Austria with average high temperatures of about 23 degrees centigrade. In winter the temperature can drop 2 or 3 degrees below zero at night, especially in December and January. However, these two months are also often dry with the risk of rain more likely in July.
Salzburg Airport is the closest to Hochkönig’s Bergreich and has scheduled flights to other Austrian cities as well as to European cities such as Dublin, Bonn, Hamburg, London, Zurich, Warsaw, Stockholm, Copenhagen, St Petersburg, Brussels and Rotterdam. Hochkönig’s Bergreich is less than an hour’s drive away from the airport. Car rental firms including Avis, Charterline, Europcar, Hertz, Megadrive, Sixt, The Shuttle and Sunny Cars can be found on the ground floor of the multi story car park at the airport. Taxis are also available outside the airport terminal.
