The 4th Arrondissement, which corresponds roughly to the Le Marais area of Paris and the Pompidou Centre, Paris, lies on the right bank of the River Seine. Known as one of the most bourgeois and historical section of the French capital, Le Marais/Pompidou Centre is a wonderful place to take a holiday rental apartment for those wishing to throw themselves into the best of Parisian life during their holiday in France.
There is a huge amount to explore throughout Le Marais/Pompidou Centre. The 4th arrondissement of Paris has very strong Renaissance influences, from the grand City Hall to the Place des Vosges, which are both fantastic places to visit if you have the time. The two Seine islands of Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint-Louis are also contained within the department, which includes one of the most famous sights of Paris; the Notre-Dame de Paris, the truly magnificent Gothic Cathedral which dominates views of the River. The Le Marais area of Paris is the old medieval district of the city, and there are no end of charming little cafes, restaurants and shops to find in the area.
One of the largest attractions to visitors in the area is the huge Centre Gorges Pompidou or the Pompidou Centre as it is known in English. Within its ultra-modern exterior are the Musee National d’Art Moderne, an acoustic music centre (IRCAM) and a vast public library. The famous building has been constructed ‘inside out’, with the colour-coded pipes which provide the buildings gas, electricity and water decorating the outside. The Musee Picasso, Musee Cognacq-Jay and the Musee Carnavalet are also found in the area.
The whole area is always a hive of activity. The attractions of the Pompidou Centre, Notre-Dame and the cafes of Le Marais attract artists and street performers who turn the streets into a haven of colour and noise. The Le Marais area of Paris’ 4th arrondissement has a strong gay community too, clearly seen through the existence of a large number of gay cafés and nightclubs.
From a self catering apartment in the 4th arrondissement, the whole of Paris is at your feet. Centrally located and surrounded by a huge number of Paris’ most celebrated attractions, a holiday rental in Le Marais or around the Pompidou Centre, Paris allows you to shop, sightsee, enjoy boat tours down the river and relax in Paris’ finest cafes and restaurants without having to travel very far at all.
During the warm summer months, when tables from cafes and restaurants in Le Marais fill the pavements with diners, and the sun shines on those climbing the Eiffel Tower of taking boat trips down the Seine, average temperatures reach a glorious 25°C. In winter, averages remain much cooler, averaging around 5°C, but it cannot ruin a Parisian holiday, as the shops, attractions and restaurants of Paris are still in full swing.
Reaching the 4th arrondissement couldn’t be easier. Located right in the heart of Paris, Le Marais and Le Pompidou Centre are connected to both Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and the Eurostar Terminal, meaning that you can be settling into your self catering holiday letting in no time from leaving the UK, or infact anywhere in Europe.
