The 11th Arrondissement of Paris is the nightlife centre of the French capital. Centring around the Place de la Bastille and Popincourt, the 11th Arrondissement is full of little bars, restaurants and cafes from chic wine bars to lively drinking holes. Now a rather smart district of Paris, Bastille was once the site of the famous prison, which stood as a global symbol of democracy for many centuries.
There is very little of The Bastille left for tourists to see. There is a pile of stones from the original prison in the Place Henri Galli and the commemorative July Column which stands beside the Spirit of Liberty monument.
The Marche d’Aligre is a huge attraction in the Bastille/Popincourt area. Paris’ largest and most extensive food market is awash with specialist food stalls from fresh fruits to choice cuts of meat. If you are staying in self catering accommodation in Popincourt, a visit to the market is a fantastic way to stock up on food, and great fun at the same time.
Located on the banks of the River Seine, there are some lovely walks you can enjoy along the banks, passing many of the best social spots along the way. The best bars and restaurants are located on the Rue Oberkampf and the Rue de Faubourg St Antoine.
The central arrondissements of Paris are close enough to walk to from a holiday rental apartment in Popincourt/Bastille. The sights and attractions of the city centre are endless and very well known to the international tourist market. All the main sights of Paris, from the Eiffel Tower to the shops of the Champs Elysees, and from the Musee Louvre to the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Montmartre are easily accessible from self catering Popincourt holiday rental accommodation.
Summers in Paris are wonderfully warm, with temperatures averaging around 26˚C during July and August. During the winter, conditions can get cold and wet, but when you are surrounded by so many attractions and places of interest, a little bad weather cannot spoil your holiday or Paris weekend break.
Popincourt/Bastille is served by three main stations on the metro network, Bastille, Breguet Sabin and Voltaire. Reaching the metro system from the UK is also very easy, as it connects to both the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and the Eurostar terminal. Flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle are easy to find from all major UK airports, provided by a huge range of airlines.
